This is my forst post, so if you need more info please just shout. I have a problem with my 306. When cold, it has developed a rough idle, and doesn't respond brightly to the accelerator. Idle RPM varies between 980ish to 800, and it is a rough idle, almost like it's not firing properly on one of the cylinders. When the accelerator is depressed, revs increase, but not brightly. If the accelerator is then held constant the revs eventually and suddenly increase to the "right" level and the engine runs smoothly. When the accelerator is released, it goes back to idle and runs roughly again and the whole thing can be repeated. I'm thinking this could be a vacuum problem, but not sure where, or maybe a fuel supply problem or possibly a sensor problem but don't really know, anyone got any ideas?

Hi all...

First a brief history. I am an American living in Paris (yes there are a few of us). I have a NYS drivers license, but since its incompatible with Europe I am in the slow progress of getting a French one. Despite the fact I have a US Drivers license I actually have very little driving experiance having got away with not needing a car until recently.... Read more

I purchased a Honda Civic 1.4 Imagine (2003) last year with only 32000 varified miles on the clock but soon realised the car had (as is so prevalent with these models) a worn Input shaft bearing. Ive paid out to replace the bearing (£400!) and this seems to have rectified the problem. The main concern i have now is if there is any way i can avoid this happening again? Heard the bearing can fail again within a few thousand miles!?!

Should i just sell the car which seems a shame as they are so reliable, or would some kind of friction reducing oil like zx1 help keep the tranmission going?... Read more

The Jazz was covered in car mechanics a few months ago. I seem to recall a specialist in Leeds area who was good at doing the gearboxes.

Honda did change some under warranty but ours went faulty later on. We traded the car in instead!

Got a problem with my saxo, When you put your foot down on the accelerator the car pull's very sluggish, and finally picks up after a while. I have recently renewed the headgasket and had the head skimmed, as before it had a over heating problem, I had previously before renewing the head gasket also replaced the lambda sensor, coolant temp sensor and crankcase sensor but these didn't make any difference so I went for the complete strip down and replaced the gasket, which despite the current fault sorted the initial running problem out. The car runs perfectly in idle and when you dip the throttle in neutral there is no hesitation or misfire, only once you've put it into drive (put load on the engine) and try to pull away does the fault become aparent. It has a multi point injection system of which I have removed all the injectors and fuel rail and cleaned them all, but i'm sure if these were the problem it wouldn't run ok in idle, I have also removed the throttle body and all the accompanying sensors, and cleaned them but still to no luck. I'm lead to believe in thinking it could possibly be the Throttle potentiometer, as these can wear out??? Any thoughts from anyone would be a help...O and also I have had the ecu checked out and plugged into a gizmo, but no fault codes were shown. Read more

No, the rev's dont increase without an increase in speed? It seems to be the first part of throttle travel that is affected, it does pick up once you've reached the kick down.

When you remove the EGR valve for cleaning it is imperative you also clean the maifold as well also a good time to check the glow plugs..

Hi all,

My 2001 Passat (B5)'s rear brake is leaking :( It seems to be coming from the seal between the caliper's cylinder and the parking brake mechanism attached to it, the bit that gets rotated when the cable is pulled. It's a sort of spring-loaded tap thing, mounted by a screw...(which doesn't seem to budge...) When the cable is pulled, the thing rotates but brake fluid drips down from the cyclinder. Hard to see exactly because it's behind the caliper. The Haynes manual doesn't elaborate on it (which seems a bit of a swiz)...does anyone know anything about it, please? HJ mentions rear brake seals going in the 'What's Bad' for this model, is it the same thing? ...can't seem to find any posts about it.... Grateful for any help.... Read more

You either fit a new caliper or recon your existing unit both ways you will have to remove it ,a recon kit is around £25 and a complete caliper around £80 have a look on ebay there are plenty avialable.
