do you know if a new model is due? i have heard that it is due in august 2011.

Tha'll be the last of the mainstream models designed by Chris Bangle to go: like the 5 and 7 the new 3 will be more conservatively styled, which (I'll stick my neck out here) I think the majority of BMW drivers prefer.

I personally think the previous shape 3 series was far better in every respect than the E90 shape now.

But as is so often the case car makers fix things that werent broken all in the name of progress. For instance overall I prferred my wifes old 53 plate Focus over the newish 59 plate Focus we have now.

The new model is the F30. There are quite a few results from a google search of bmw f30 and 2012 does seem most likely. It does look quite like a smaller F10 (5 series) if the spy pictures are to be believed.

This is what it has on Autocar's website:

"Britain’s best-selling sports saloon – the 3-series - gets a ground-up refresh from late next year."

From Car:

"The new 3-series, codenamed F30, which is due in showrooms in early 2012."

as do most of the other websites I've visited.
