My situation: I have three daughters aged 9 months, 3 years and 8 years old, and of course a wife. We have between £2000 and £4000 to spend on a car. We need enough room at the rear to fit 3 car seats or 2 at the back + wife. We obviously dont want to be crammed in like sardines like most conventional cars in this configuration. We need boot space for a buggy and the weekly shop. So far I have been thinking of a TDI Touran or Passat estate, however concerned with the dreaded DPF's. We have had 1.9TDI's in the past (in Bora body) and was very happy with it however now that size car would be inadequate. Should I stay clear of the 2L TDI? I wouldnt mind something with some torque (after all i need some pleasing). So in a nutshell, something reliable, spacious and torque.y What are you thoughts on the above? Am i considering the right type of vehicle? Read more

Aren't the distance selling regulations applicable here ?

Since the OP discovered the fault when it was delivered and still accepted the car he may well have ruined any chance of applying the distance selling regs.

Hi I wonder if anyone can help? My husband thinks there is a problem with the O ring on pipe to heater matrix causing a small leak to passenger footwell. He is able to do the work but we can't find the correct size for it anywhere, even Peugeot say they wouldn't know the size. Can anyone help with this info as he doesn't want to start it and then find he's got the wrong size which will leave me carless...

In my experience, there's too many different 'O' ring sizes to suggest buying a box of assorted ones - you'd need thousands.

I'd recommend buying the part from a Peugeot dealer. May cost a bit, but probably less than buying all the possible combinations.

Hi All - my first post on this site, so any help would be grateful.

My 2006 1.6 tdci has developed power steering noise (like creaking). Noise started when only on full lock, but is now more noticeable at lower steering angles, although the noise increases as lock increases. I know on this model that there is no power steering fluid (I think it's an electronic power steering). Any ideas on what is causing the noise and what I can do to stop it? Read more

My son had the windscreen of his Punto cracked by a large stone on Friday. He called his insurer's windscreen claim line (Nationwide) and the first day they could offer was Monday 29th. That's 10 days, or 8 if reasonably you exclude Christmas and Boxing Day.

I haven't needed a windscreen repair or replacement for several years but the last time I did, Autoglass were out in a day or two. Colleagues confirm this has been their experience too. Nationwide blamed the delay on the holidays, but isn't over a week excessive?... Read more

Bet if you rang a local screen chappie, not one who spends umpteen £millions on advertising, preferably one who services the car trade you'd have a screen in the same or next day.

You might be even more surprised to find that the job can be done on many cars for only just over the standard screen excess, again not from the heavy advertisers.

I use an automative ring tyre inflator. It has an integrated pressure gauge. I wonder how do I know it is accurate ? Which is the most accurate tyre pressure gauge ? Sometimes I lose a little air when disconnecting. Is there a way to avoid this ? Read more

Can anyone suggest what kind of percentage variation there can be to a maker's recommended running pressure before there is a perceptible change in driving characteristics? This obviously depends on many mechanical factors to do with the tyre's and the car's construction, but equally obviously there are lots of cars out there running with significantly under-inflated tyres?

From experimentation, only a couple of psi difference is needed to start noticing differences - particularly in front:rear balance - but like many things it depends on your level of mechanical empathy, real or imaginary!...

Yes, I am fully aware a 57 plate will be the Mark 3 Micra.

In your original post you referred to Micras up to 2003 being OK. I respeonded because our 2007 car is and has always been OK....

Cars have so many gadgets now. Some are amusing [all doors unlock from several yards away when button on key pressed], some are useful [folding wing mirrors].

My favourite is a rear window blind. With high level headlights on tailgating SUVs I am surprised this simple bit of kit is not included as standard. What's yours? ... Read more

Some sort of brake that could be applied at traffic lights that doesn't leave the brake lights dazzling the person behind.

I am sure they don't exist on most cars anymore - at least nobody round here uses one!!
