If you are including the dmf, then I would think around £7-800.

bad clutches on 08 accent

The clutch on my 08 accent went out at 72k. The dealership charged $1700 for a new one a year ago, now after a year and 15k miles it is slipping badly. The dealership has their heels dug in on their 12 month 12k mile warrenty. I talked to another mechanic who said they probably installed it incorrectly. He also said the going rate for a new clutch is $900. I thought 72k was early for a clutch to go, but 15k is not acceptable. Any thoughts on getting this resolved? Read more

Very rough guess, could be related to the post-heating system where the glow plugs stay on for a little while after starting?

I would think that's the most likely and most easily diagnosed problem. The ECU will also have a timer for certain faults. This will keep the lamp illuminated for longer than the fault duration.

Moved to Technical. Agreed - sounds like dirty battery terminals. When you;ver cleaned them rub some Vaseline or something similar on them.

Hi!

Seems like the ignition module is the one that causing it indeed. It just not cooling it down. Quick fix was that we took off the module from distributor body, put on some wires to connect Phase cables and added extra copper sheet, that's bended, to be as a cooling device. Looks like it rolls well for now. Quite unfortunate that it's cristmas time and new part will probably arrive sometime in next week.

With ours we can get up hills that we previously struggled with, and with less effort.

Right - you will have a lower low gear and maybe a higher high (if that makes sense) but the intermediate combinations will be as close as dammit to duplicates of each other!

Dear Honest John,
I am to take delivery soon of a newly registered motorhome based on a Ford 2.2 Diesel engine and chassis. It is an old model and is between 1 and 2 years old although only done delivery miles. What would you recommend the servicing to be. Firstly, would you have the engine oil changed before delivery and secondly, based on using the motorhome for around 6000 miles per year. Should I have a service done annually or before each major trip?. Regards, Mike Read more

Yes, annual, and given the height off the ground got to be one of the easiest DiY oil changes known to man, given your mileage you could probably get it serviced fully every other year, especially if it doesn't see salt, and DiY the engine oil and basic checks in between.

Cost wise, i've just stocked up with 3 x 4litre packs of 5W40 (other grades available) full synthetic oil for about £32 in Halfords (other oil sources available) sale, cheapest investment for the long life of your engine you could make.
