Thinking about getting one of these for expanding family.

Any views / experience / knowledge on the 1.4 and 1.9 tdi engines?... Read more

Until recently I had a 1.4TDi 80 Roomster which I owned for under five years; nothing went wrong with the engine, and the economy was outstanding. However, in hindsight I would have gone for the 1.9 as while the performance was adequate, the 1.9 offers more power especially at lower revs, and less vibration at idle.

Non-engine related, but the a/c on my Roomster never cooled that well despite regassing a number of times; an intercooler hose also went wrong twice despite having it fixed at the Skoda dealer (prob due to them not fixing it properly the first time). I do miss the space and flexibility of the Roomster compared to my Kia.

FP is correct - sorry, we can't do that. Fortunately it doesn't cost anything to come on to the forum and have a look.

As a diesel pilot I'm feeling a bit guilty about starting up today. I appreciate that no car with an IC engine is emission free, its a price we have to pay for our necessary mobility.

I did however think that a modern diesel fitted with the sometimes unpopular DPF, was the best that tecnology could provide, but now I am apparantly still responsible for spreading nasty Nox and such around the city stunting kids brains etc.... Read more

There is no smog, it's just mist/fog like we always had. TPB poisoning the minds of the masses more likely.

I remember the proper fumes and I'm only 40.
I even remember as a child lying in bed with my window ajar and smelling neighbours exhaust fumes as they drove up the hill with the choke out....

Glow plug light covers everything fuelling and turbo related. Only true way to is a problem is with a code read.

I would suggest you start with the fuel filter though. Easy and cheap to do. Bear in mind, this could be all manner of problems from a dodgy turbo to a split boost pipe back to clogged injectors.

Get a code read to be sure.

Beauty - or ugliness - is in the eye of the beholder. I agree with Alby that the Superb hatch is dumpy at best - but the estate is much better proportioned and to my eyes looks better than the Passat estate.

Audis look better for sure - but you pay a lot more for less room.

I've had great service from my insurance company "LV"=
I had my car written off by a Veolia waste recovery truck at 10.10 on Friday morning
I got home around 11.30am and phoned my company and by 12.30am
they had arranged for the car to be collected for repair (will be a writeoff) and for a hire car to be charged to the other insurer. (I did not have this option on my insurance).

At about 1.30pm Friday, my insurer rang me to say that the other insurer had admitted liability The only snag is that my car will be written off and I will not be able to
get another car as good as mine with the payoff which is likely to be low.... Read more

Me again. I assure you that all I have stated is true and another plus, I have added my new (secondhand) Citroen c3 11 plate to my existing policy with LV= for just £10.04. with 5 months still to run on the policy.

Naturally there are sceptics but that is their problem - I'm laughing all the way to the bank - just wanted to let others know.

I am about to buy 2003 model of this Allroad. My mechanic has concerned me with some scares about problematic gearboxes. Is there anybody that has suffered any issues because when I read reviews I read the opposite of his concerns. Is there anyone that could advise me about any difficulties they've suffered ? You will either be very lucky and it will cost you very little but a vehicle this complex and this old will more than likely cost you dearly.

Nice to see the hire car boys are still refunding foreign currency fuel deposits a few pence less than the original amount, (just less than a quid)! Not big enough for me to justify going to the trouble of a long drawn-out telephone call, but X however many vehicles they must rent out in a day worldwide, a nice little earner maybe?

Has anyone here ever been in profit when this has happened to them, because in 20 years of doing this, I cannot recall it ever happening to me.... Read more

I would never hire a car from anybody who requires a fuel deposit and I never hire from anybody who has a "Take it full, return it empty" policy either. In fact I have never been asked for a fuel deposit.
