The local aircon specialist is offering a aircon winter service including aircon topup, oil charge, moisture and acid flush.

They claim they can accurately analyse the A/C systems requirement without the need to remove existing refrigerant using ambient and vent temperatures, A/C system high & low pressure readings, and they do not need to remove the existing refrigerant.... Read more

If the system is vacuumed then most of the oil will be removed, along with all of the refrigerant. The fact that most of the oil has been removed will be taken into account when the system is regassed, i.e. an appropriate amount of fresh oil will be added.

As far as I'm concerned, the aircon is only regassed when it no longer gets cold, thought I'm sure others will disagree with me!...

You can't you need to take it to a Citroen agent where they will use a program tool called "Lexia" I think in the UK.You need a bit more than you seem to think a new program has to be written and embedded into the ECU with a copy of the original kept for safety there are companys that specialise in this work but non are cheap.

Hi ,I've just seen details of people being fined for an offence I've not come across before .

Details are in our local paper ,and read as follows (.being the person whose name a vehicle was registered to when it did not meet the insurance requirements .£200 fine ,£125 costs .)

I understand the detail of the offence , but under what circumstances would an individual be fined for this offence .

If the vehicle is on a SORN it does not have to be insurred. Got a classic that I only use 6 months a year thus SORN for the winter, I keep it insurred because of the value and not the new law.

My Corsa D 1.2i petrol is less than 2 years old, 7100 miles, so probably not a corrosion problem. Fairly strong smell of petrol from rear of car (boot, rear seat area?) especially when tank above half full. No drips on ground or apparent leak underneath outside. When less than half full, smell disappears but sometimes returns and stays after driving car a few miles. Am now driving around with windows open and tank nearly empty. Filler cap not too tight but suspect this is a vent. Perhaps charcoal canister in rear wheel arch? No petrol smell at all from engine compartment, even when hot. Incidentally, the car seems to run rich - poorish economy compared with my previous Corsa C (and it should be better, from the figures), oil gets dirty quite quickly compared with Corsa C. Car hasn't had any bumps or jolts or been messed about with. Any ideas, please? Read more

Has this not got a torque setting that clicks when the cap's fully tightened?...

In the current newsletter from HJ there is a query re cause of steering vibration. The cause is given as worn suspension bushes. I can offer an alternative - (and possibly more correct) cause.

I had identical symptoms to the original questioner where v frightening steering vibration occured for no apparent reason after driving for some time and then following some braking. The problem was intermitent in occurence, would last for a few minutes and then disappear and had no relation to road surface. It could then reappear again for no apparent reason.... Read more

Highly unusual but not unheard of normaly as HJ suggested your problem was intermitant and point in direction of the brakes the symptoms as reported to HJ suggested bushes but you have that pleasure to come.

Some small engines used by Ford group were fitted with snap bolts so even if you wanted to they could not be stripped down.

Over the past couple of days when pulling away in first gear the car is kangarooing quite badly.

I previously had a problem with the speedo dropping so we have replaced the VSS, the HT leads and put on a new coil pack. The speedo problem is now sorted but now have this kangarooing problem. Only in first gear though.... Read more
