Does anyone know what year they started putting the DPF in the 1.5 DCI engines? Is it possible to tell which cars have a DPF and which don't? Read more

I found out from the dealers that the 1.5s weren't DPF until the Megane Mk3. :)

Report in today's local paper about a chap killed when his Landrover moved while he was under it.

Not sure of the accuracy of this, it says he'd removed the prop shaft, which disabled the 'electric brake' and the manual handbrake was ineffective through rust....

Hi

Hope someone can help me, my Micra has done 70000 miles and after seeing 2 garages about changing the timing belt both of them has said to leave it alone as "the new ones aren't as good as the chain belt already on the car"... Read more

Hope I can ask another question regarding my headlights. They are degrading and when I checked them the lens looks like it would clip off, does anyone know if you can just replace the lens without the whole headlight unit.

On a high mileage and old motor is any use bothering to spray the bolts on the job a few days before commencing the work and if so what is freeing agent would you recommend?

I can't imagine how any fluid can creep round a thread of a bolt with a nut and washer very tight and not touched for years, but I'll see what you say. Read more

An interesting one this, I mentioned G3 in another forum and most people mentioned g3 farecla, which is totally different.

A Nissan dealer will provide the tempting offer at a bargain £150 on a nearly new car. G3 glasscoat, aka supaguard etc is a high tech coating that is put over your car and on the upholstery etc, in order to preserve the paintwork and seats, with a guarantee of 5 years it looks very promising, I've spoken to one of the G3 people and "pride" about the product is very obvious, in reality G3 don't do it unfortunately, the car gets taken into the dealers work shop and it's treated by them, the bad news if a car has been sat on the forecourt for a month and is then degreased for prep, are blemishes (etched bird crap, scratches, dried water marks and marks on seat etc) dealt with prior to treatment?, officially yes says the guy at G3, "any blemishes should be removed before coating", in reality I just wish i was a fly on the wall ;-). As for the longevity of the coating can anyone within the automotive industry tell me that in 4 years time I will be able to tell the difference between a G3's car and a normal one just polished normally ?. While on this subject can anyone please tell me if Autoglyms SRP and a lot of rubbing would get rid of the etchings ?. Is it money well spent ?. £150 would buy alot of decent polish and at least you'd be able to treat blemishes that were'nt coated. And from what I've heard some dealerships charge A LOT more for the coating. Read more

Hi all. The 'diesel additive at minimum level' has started to flash up on centre console. Ive read a few threads on here and i think i'm going to buy the refill kit and take it in to get the ecu reset. I'm a hgv mechanic and am i right in thinking its the same as an add-blue system on a wagon? Add-blue sysytems just inject add-blue (pig p***) into the exhaust cat to reduce emissions. My main question is if i leave it will the engine go into limp mode and could leaving it cause any damage? cheers, matthew Read more

I'm considering purchasing a 1.4 TDCi Fiesta to replace my 1.6 petrol focus, I'm going through loads of miles and the fuel economy of my Focus just isn't cutting it any more. Ford states the mpg of the Fiesta is 67. I was wondering what people are actually getting? As I assume real life driving comes no where near this figure..... Read more
