I'm having a huge problem removing a rear drum.
The shoes are causing the drum to bind a little so something is amiss? I've used a puller without success,... Read more

I am sorry to interrupt but I have an issue with my 2002 peugeot 607 2.0 litre petrol manual gearbox. When stationary the second gear engages normally.upon moving(even at low speeds),the second gear will never engage and makes the noise synonymous to shifting to the reverse gear whiles the car is in forward motion.initially,i thought it was a problem with the gear oil so i took it to the mechanic and he drained about 2litres of dirty gear oil.we replaced that with 5L of gear oil from TOTAL lube bay(there is no ESSO company in my part of the world)After this ,the problem still persist such that from 1st gear i have to move to 3rd gear because 2nd will not engage.I would like to know what could be the possible cause of this defect and also, how much volume of fluid (in litres) should be put in the gearbox and what is the recommended gear oil.?

No suprise it's a 206 with electrical problems. A 1.6Hdi to be exact.
Basically, when driving, strangely normally when slowing or coming to a stop, there is a complete loss of electronics. All dials zero, all dash lights come on, clock resets (so complete power loss somehow)...... Read more
Haven't tested it moving yet, but had it running - and yup you were right. There was only about 2 strands of the earth left joined from the gearbox to the wing.
Not got a spare joiner, so took an earth of an old 407 and just joined it from the negative terminal to an earth point next to the battery =)...
Having read on here about issues arising with the chain slipping on VW 1.4 Petrol engines, does it also effect the 1.4 engines with turbos ie TSI?
Is it case now of avoiding ALL chain driven 1.4 engines, irrespective of power output, aspiration etc? Read more
It sounds odd doesn't it? Basically, antifreeze is much worse at cooling than water. For a given coolant temp, the higher the proportion of antfreeze, the hotter the temperature of the cylinder head.
This was well established in WW2 when they were trying to get sustained high outputs out of piston engines and cooling was the big issue. It has been reaffirmed many times since.
Hi all, found the forum after a google search and hoping you can offer me some advice. I have set out the situation below which is causing me a great deal of stress so hopefully someone can help me to resolve this.
Recently decided to buy my dream car so got the finances together and started looking for a BMW Z4 Coupe. Decided on the BMWAUC route to ensure peace of mind when spending so much money.... Read more
I had a similar situation with a Lexus . It transpires that a 'Lexus approved' service history doesnt mean its has a FULL service history....(its in the small print.)
My situation arose when I wasnt supplied with the service book. When they did it had simply been stamped up with one date (the date I received it) and mileages put in retrospectively. This showed a missing service but despite this missing service it was still 'Lexus approved'. It was laughable - this was a major dealer - the salesman was moved on afterwards....
Hi
I've had the battery changed on my 2004 Almera Tino, I have the code but it hasn't yet prompted me to enter it.... Read more
I changed the battery on my tino a couple of years ago, have you tried pressing the set button next to the temp control rotary knob? I think it then comes up with a few options one of which is audio, fairly sure it gives you an input code option then. I may be wrong on any of the above, but I managed to do it easily myself- so it must be straight forward!
Hi there, I am a car dealer and i have an Astra H 3 Door here with a problem.
Originally the foglights weren't working, along the heated rear screen, the aircon compressor, at the same time the airbag light would be on but only light up dimmly - and every time you would press the foglight switch/button the airbag light would go out. I replaced the 5amp fuse in fusebox in the boot and everything was back to normal for 1 or 2 days.... Read more
I had a similar problem when I bought a corsa. The rear screen heater, boot lock operated by the central locking and rear wiper did not work. When I switched on the rear wiper the fuse blew. It turned out that the rear hatch had been replaced from another corsa and although the electrical connector to the hatch was the same the wiring was not. Once I had identified the pins and moved them to the correct location all was well.
Hi,
Wondering if i have any legal redress for this problem.... Read more
Good result-hope everything goes all right for you now.
We often see comments questions from people wondering or debating about the merits of buying either an older but very low mileage car, or a younger higher mileage one. Usual consensus is that a car with low miles over many years is likely to have had quite a hard life of short runs, stop starts etc, compared to one that has been on longer runs and higher mileage.
Anyway, how about this one? Looking at a 60-reg car, so late 2010, and it's already clocked up over 40,000 miles.... Read more
Ah yes! I see.
I have oil issues with my Polo Gti which I purchased from a Volkswagen dealer on 31st May 2011 at just over 6,000miles. ... Read more
I noticed the car used an excessive amount of oil in the forthcoming miles and in November 2011 I took the car back to dealer and expressed my concern. They then agreed the car was using excessive oil and to book in for the piston rings to be replaced on the vehicle.
I booked the vehicle in November 2011 for the December 2011 work to commence and for the dealer to have the car over the Christmas period. I picked the car back up just after Christmas.
I was asked to keep a close eye on the oil consumption the vehicle for the forthcoming months. After topping the car back up with oil during 3 months I went back to the dealer to express my concern that the repair hadn’t worked as I was using as much (if not more) oil than before, I was booked in March 2012 for work to commence in April 2012.
I was given a courtesy car for a few days while the dealer investigated the oil issue. After 3 days the dealer gave me my car back with an inconclusive report. They acknowledged the car was using too much oil but are awaiting VW getting back to them on a confirmed repair, to quote the Service Manager “could be a week, could be a month could be a year”
I obviously find this unacceptable for a car that is just over a year old which I paid a large deposit to and continue to pay for each month. The dealer has given me an endless supply of oil until the matter is resolved but I do not see this as the solution and I am very reluctant to drive the vehicle at all now.
I have contacted VW Customer Services, VW Finance and the dealer (again) gave them all a version of this response but all of them have said the same thing, namely VW DON’T have a solution!!
I have written up a reasonable timeframe for a repair:
• 1 month from today 10th May 2012 – A resolution sort and my vehicle booked in for repair.
• 2 months from today 10th June 2012 – My vehicle completely fixed.
If this cannot be sorted within this timeframe I will have no choice but to reject the vehicle and request a full refund or exchange the vehicle for another.
On the matter of rejection I have contacted Citizens Advice and Trading Standards and they are in agreement with me that it is unacceptable
Again thanks Tony
Do you think, on this basis, it's foreseeable to claim a full refund?
I can prove the rejection from the previous owner and he is willing to be a witness on why he rejected it plus has sent me some email confirmation on rejecting the car before I bought it
I've always got round the problem by tapping the drum while pulling and rotating it.
I won't deny using a damn great hammer on occasion..........
