I want to replace my DMF (dual mass flywheel), clutch and slave cylinder on my 2009 Focus 1.8 TDCi (its done a lot of miles). I bought a DMF online, having given the car details and stated as being for 11/2004 onwards, they said it was LuK, it came in a LuK box, but inside the DMF was stamped Sachs!

The part number on the LuK box (and on the website and invoice) is 415047810, but the DMF has label with 4150478900. I have also been given conflicting advice about whether my car has a Sachs or LuK clutch, and whether or not it matters which I buy, and whether the make of clutch and DMF have to match! I am very confused, now I wish I'd just let the garage buy the parts and paid the extra...... Read more

Chris M - off-topic point... but you're absolutely right, and the garage I'm getting it done at said they can't offer a guarantee as would if they supplied the parts.

My car is Toyota Yaris, one of tyre had a puncture and need to replace with a new tyre. The garage says my car tyre have locking wheel nuts and need a key to unlock. I purchased the car from brand new and I cannot recall the Toyota dealer gave me a key for wheel nuts. I am considering ask garage to remove all of these locking wheel nuts and replace with normal nuts. if I do, will I get a trouble with car insurance? does it mean this car has been modified? I often see this box when search for insurance quote. Can someone please give me advice? thank you in advance! best regards Read more

Why not just leave the car unlocked and a window open whilst you are at it. The locking nuts are there for a reason and I think your insurance company would expect them to be there. Leaving the insurance aside, how inconvenient would it for you to return to your car one Sunday evening when it's raining to find it standing on bricks?

Hi

I purchased a Fiat Grande Punto about 3 months ago from a used car dealer and some issues have come up reguarding the car perfromance. Since I've had the car, the engine has always sounded fairly loud along with very noisy tappets, and if you start the car instantly without pausing while in ignition it does struggle to turn over.... Are Trading Standards able to help?

Traders should comply with various laws and regulations, some of which are enforced by the Trading Standards Service. For this reason, we ensure that the relevant Trading Standards authority is notified when a trader’s business practice is called into question.

However the only way a consumer can enforce their own civil rights is through the courts, meaning that generally trading standards will not be able to assist with individual cases.

If the OP had substituted 'very nice car' for BMW or MB, I probably would have thought it was a genuine enquiry!

the drivers door window, goes up on automatic and then as soon as it reaches the top of the cycle (i.e.fully closed) immediately comes back down again to fully open !! Is this a familiar fault and /or has someone suffered something similar. I am keen to know what sort of repair bill I am likely to get?

Hi,

My petrol/fuel gauge has been showing empty for the last 3/4 weeks, so I am topping it up with petrol but guessing to the amount that is in the tank. The yellow light is always on and sometimes moves up to the second bar but nothing higher. I put £50 petrol in and the gauge never moved. Any ideas or help please people?... Read more

Hi I have a 106 Xsi. A few weeks ago after being left standing for a week the car practically had a flat battery and wouldn't turn the engine. I took the battery out charged it and put it back the following day and now the car won't start. It turns over but won't fire. At first I thought the immobiliser had kicked in somehow. I have one of those keypads by the gear stick but this has been disconnected since before i bought the car and has never done this before. Neither of the keys I have, have chips in them.

So I did some checks on the car and it turned out there was no fuel getting to the spark plugs and also no spark from the spark plugs. You can't hear the fuel pump priming when I turn the ignition on. I got a replacement crank sensor as someone said it could be this and this did seem to make the car sound like it wanted to start a lot more but still wouldn't. I still can't hear the fuel pump priming but the spark plugs are now wet and smelling of fuel after I turn the engine but I still have no spark. I tested the power feed going into the coil pack with a multimtre and there is no power.. ... Read more

I had a similar problem a couple of years' back. I went down the crankshaft sendor replacement route and no joy-still no fuel or spark. Eventually I tackled the ECU box. A rubber gasket had failed on the wiring loom connection allowing water into the wiring loom. This had gradually corroded the power supply pin down to nothing. Soldered on a new wire, ran it through the bulkhead and soldered it on to the relevant fuse holder in the fusebox. Fired right up.

Hopeful!

I am looking at two cars. Both Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDi diesel estates.

Number one is 2005 with 85000 miles. It has full service history, most with Skoda. But needs a cam belt change. Asking Price is £3,400. It is a private sale.... Read more

Hopeful!

Well, I went for the 2005 (Nov reg 55) TDi. So car is really only 6 1/2 years old. The seller reduced the price for the cost of replacement oif the cam belt by £250, to £3,150. It drove the 50 miles home at 64 mpg!

Thank you for your advice. It was really appreciated. Will get cam belt and water pump (with metal impellors?) changed asap.

Hi, i have a A3 1.4T sportaback on a 57 plate- done 16K miles. Since i have had it i cannot get any decent mileage out of it. It is mainly used for town driving but even on long runs i can only get about 28mpg out of it at best. Putting so much fuel in it!!. im running it on normal 95RON unleaded. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks- Russell Read more

I have to agree with you. I have a 1.8 Zafira that's cheaper to run on BP Ultimate petrol than anything else, despite the higher cost per litre. The reason? It eats EGR valves when run on anything else and they ain't cheap! I went through three of the things before I worked that one out.
