Hi,

I have had a problem with my 2007 mazda3 air conditioning since last summer. Basically the compressor seems to be engaging and disengaging all the time but it gets disengaged for a very long time when the weather gets hot e.g. during summer days. I asked the mazda dealer in Godalming to check the AC when I took it for a comprehensive service. They didn't have a clue (yes supposed to be mazda specialist!! www.guildford-mazda.co.uk/) and for the money that they charged me for the service to say that oh we put thermometer in the car and didn't find any fault, is just outragous. As a result I never go back there again for anything and i do not recommend them to anyone. I also took may car to the Halfords Autocentre in Guildford where they supposedly do performance test as part of their AC service (you can check this on their website here www.halfordsautocentres.com/Basket/?fasttrack=false). They recharged the AC whitout even telling me whther the level of the gas was low or not in fact they seemed like bunch of cowboy mechanics because as soon as I left their workshop I realized that the AC is not working and went straight back to them and they were just cluless. I contacted their head office and logged in a complaint, nothing has hppened yet though.... Read more

Thanks, but I already tried them. They only replace the whole compressor which is quite expensive.

I stopped at a petrol station to fill up yesterday. As it was very hot I left my driver's door slightly ajar and my passenger did the same to try and get some breeze through the car- no A/C. However the pump would not zero and then a tannoy announced "No. 4 close your doors!". When I went to pay I queried this and was told it was a new H&S regulation. I then queried the value of this as the windows were still open and was met up a blank look. Is anybody familiar with this regulation? Read more

What happens when you fill a cabriolet with the roof down?

The interior gets soaked.

hi i've got a problem with my air conditioning . the air coming out is not very cold , so i thought it might need a top up , however on feeling the pipes leading from the unit one was warm and one was lovely and cold. the fan in the car is going and with the engine going there is a click , a dip in revs and a short whirr then a click and dip in revs and whirr every 3-4 secs , any ideas? The constant clciking sounds like the system is "cycling" normally caused by low gas level.

as a rule of thumb When the gas is correct, the low side pipe should be sweating, almost straight away.

Hello everyone,

I have a really annoying issue with my car and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.... Read more

With the MAF disconnected the engine will be running reduced output as it won't know the actual airflow, so that may mask the problem. The ECU needs to know when you refuel so it can calulate the Eolys to be injeted, no Eolys means the DPF may start to get clogged. I would also check the pipes from turbo to intercooler to manifold for leaks. These may not be obvious as they only show when under pressure but look for oil spray teltale marks. The fuel flap sensor is just a magnet on the flap & a sensor in the boot, the magnets have a habit of falling off.

I have a low mileage 37K, 07 which runs at a very low engine temperature, never above the 75 deg required for DPF regen.

I have had the garage replace the thermostat and they say the EGR thermostat is fine. However, the garage run the engine with the car stationary and it gets to the 88-92 deg, however, once on the road/motorway high revs/low revs the car still stubbornly runs at a low temperature even after an hour.... I don't think it is the temperature sender.

If the car is stationary then the temp gets to target.
If running then the passing thermostat shows reduced temp...

My wife's A-Class (2007) has a hole in the condenser so the air con does not work and there is no point re-gassing it. The dealer has quoted £600 to replace of which he says well over half is made up of parts.

Before I let the dealer do it, can anyone recommend an expert in the Manchester area who could give me a cheaper quotation. I am happy to use pattern parts (if there are any).... Read more

As you said. We went to the local MB indy who recommended Polar and they quoted £319 + VAT (saving just over £200 + VAT). Even coming to the house to do it.

Don't dismiss the Multipla. Multimac looks seriously lacking to me when compared to a proper child seat.

Please could you advise about a problem I'm having on my 1999 Toyota Corolla.
It started during gentle slow braking with steering on RH lock even in dry weather.
The abs seems to activate as there is the familiar grinding noise and it is felt through the brake pedal. The problem has now worsened; it now appears on LH lock and straight ahead but still only at slow speed and gentle braking.
The braking effect still seems to be effective and not diminished
Many thanks Read more

It's worth getting things professionally looked at. You can't mess about with brakes. As mentioned, Idon't think it's your ABS - I think your pads have worn out and the backing plate is grinding on to your discs. The reason it only appears at slow speed is becuase you can't hear it at high speed due to road noise etc. Minimise driving of your car and have it booked into a reliable independent garage asap.

Hello. Today the engine warning lamp has stayed illuminated after start up. Have checked all levels - OK. Engine is running OK. No power loss. Was serviced only a few months age. Am in the berkshire area. Where is best place to go to get fault record downloaded? Cannot see a generally known problem on HJ up to now, unless I have missed something. Read more

You might have seen the new MoT Files stories on the news and in the papers lately – you’ll find the data at honestjohn.co.uk/mot.

There’s a lot there, and I’m sure many of you will have already had a quick look through for your own cars, past and present. You’ll also find geographical data for all of the post code areas in England, Scotland and Wales.

If you go through the menus to find your specific make and model of car you’ll see key areas that tend to cause problems, so you can have them checked out before your MoT test is due and, hopefully, avoid failing on an easy-to-fix problem. Read more
