Hi,

The car runs fine when cruising along but when I accelerate there is a slight pause and stutter before it actualy accelerates. it also does it on cruise control when you lift the stalk. It's had a new egr about 5k ago as well as 4 injectors and loom on recall about a year ago.

I've started by putting in a new fuel filter but it's made no difference.

Any ideas where to look for a diy attempt at resolving this ?

Thanks

I would start by checking the free operation of the turbo actuator.

I am about to refil the DPF fluid on my ford focus myself, I'll worry about resetting the ECU later. I have searched extensively on T'internet for some photos showing the exact location of the tank and the exact position of the pipes I need to disconect and reconnect, as this would help with the pre planning phase of this work.

Does anyone on this forum have any photos they are willing to share for the good of us all Read more

I've always thought of Rovers as old mens cars, but just seen this one and it's great on fuel as it's a diesel, in a nice black and silver, with leather seats and has done 64000 miles and they want £3000. mot due in aug though. Any thoughts? Read more

Thanks for all the replies, I've been away. I agree the low mileage oddly concerns me, especially as it has had 3 previous owners. A friend who worked at Rover said nice car, but the silver trims were notorious at leeting in water and he felt for my life with children the boot was too small.

If your key is a flick out type it appears to be a reasonably common fault - what has happened is that the rubber buttons have stretched and are permenantly in contact with the microswitches underneath, this activates the global open/close system which includes the windows (hold down the unlock button and the windows open, hold down the lock button and they close)

There are two solutions one expensive and sure to work - visit your dealer and get a new key (Timpsons may be able to help cheaper) the cheaper solution is to open the key as though you are replacing the battery and remove the circuit board - you'll have to break the little plastic retainers that have been heat formed on the rods that hold the board in position but a drop of Bostik or similar will replace these on reassembly. Using a blunt cocktail stick press the rubber through the hole where the switches were to streach it back away from the microswitch. Reassemble and try. Good Luck....

Hi my car has developed this issue recenlty where it will start idle ok and then randomly cut out as if the ignition has been turned off. Turn it off and it will start again fine. It will also try and happen when driving as it randomly loses power and slows down for a second or two then will take off again.
when this happens the rev needle will flick and drop as iff its been turned off. Also sometimes after one of these 'twitches' the glow plug light will come on and start flashing. when you turn the igniton off and restart it goes away. car runs fine with no loss of MPG or turbo boost when this isnt going on.
Audi has just replaced all the injectors as part of a recall which i hoped would fix this but is hasnt.
I have ordered a VAG reader but it hasnt arrived yet so dont have any error codes as yet. Anyone got any ideas? Read more

Hi,what is the schedule for changing the 1.8 petrol timing belt? What else needs doing (eg. tensioners, pulleys, water pump)?Any other belts worth changing? Read more

Dynamic Dave

The Z18XE engine is every 60,000 or 6 years (whichever is sooner)

Yes, good practice to change the waterpump if driven from the belt (can't remember if it is on this engine, or it's the newer Z18XER that's not driven from the cambelt)...

Both my fog light and reversing light are not working.Have tied installing new bulbs but still no lights.I cant find a fuse that identifies itself as being for these functions either in the compartment or under the bonnet.Any suggestions appreciated. Read more

There is a fuse box in the engine bay that is almost impossible to access. It sits under the n/side headlight, but requires removal of the front bumper to release the light.Worth a look if you feel brave.hth

I know the subject of extended warranty has occupied many "column inches" in the forums. In yesterday's D Telegraph, I notice on successive HJ pages there are ads for two different companies, one which bears the tag "the only HJ approved car warranty" and the other with Quenton Willson's beaming features. Which one is best? Read more

I have a problem with my Vauxhall Zafira comfort ( 2002 1.8) , although the car is running fine / hasnt broken down , I keep getting engine management light ( car with spanner) also when the engine is running the coolant yellow line is on as well as the coolant fan continuousily running . When I took the car to the mechanic he did a full service still no change with the lights , so he then changed the temperature sensor switch after that for around 10miles of driving the car behaved ok , the fan only came on when needed, however, its gone back to running continuously , I am also told that the A/C is also running . Please note the fans only run continously when the engine is turning over , although when I do turn off the engine sometimes it takes a minute or two for the fan to stop completely
It has been scanned and the codes I have I the first time with the AA were P1540 and 0170 second time with Vauxhall P1540,P1555 and 163. Please help with feedback if you can. I was supposed to use this for a family trip with my children in the summer and feel like I have wasted money buying this car , which was less than two weeks ago . Read more
