Joking aside, I'm running a 51 plate 18 petrol Picasso with 85k on the clock, we do about 6k miles a year. I'm wondering whether to replace it or invest in it - it needs the cam belt and water pump replacing and hasn't had a pro service for a year or so. It runs OK but it's starting to show signs of age - cutting out after starting occasionally, even less power than it used to have. I'm worried it might be about to enter a period of expensive failures. But it's been a very reliable machine and the total cost of owning and running it has been really low.

Have just bought a used 11 Reg Meriva with the electric parking brake, but no 'Hill Start Assist'. Has anyone got any advice on doing hill starts on very steep hills? We've followed the instructions in the manual for just driving off and letting it release the brake automatically, which is fine on flat surfaces and slight inclines, but we live in area surrounded by steep hills. All our attempts result in us rolling back. The only way it has worked in the end is by pulling up the switch to keep the brake switched on until the accelerator and clutch are balanced enough & the car starts to pull forward. The manual doesn't say whether you can use the switch in this way on a hill. It appears that the electric brake is being released (& the light going out) before the clutch is at the biting point. Are we missing something?

Hi,
Just had my Toyota in the main dealer as I was losing water. They have reported as I suspected, that the head gasket has failed. Having read on here that it was a 'known issue' I asked if Toyota would fix it free of charge. I was told that:- ... Read more

I am having to sell my beloved citroen xsara1.8 auto because it's 14 years old and replacing the rad will be £300+ and mechanic said it might unsettle other stuff. I'm trying to be good and go for something more fuel efficient, so test drove a c3 1.6 sensodrive and hated the engine noise and suspension. I know Honda Jazz's are meant to be great, but I've only managed to save £2000, so there are only high mileage jazz's available, because it's a small engine a dealer advised me against buying a honda jazz with a high mileage as he said it would have put lots of strain over the years on the gear box. Is he right? I'm looking at the Honda civic too. Any recommendations for a second hand car for around £2000 that can do both lots of urban and regular 500 miles trips to Cornwall? Thanks for any advice you can offer me :) Read more
I have found where all the p/x honda cars go to, so I'm hoping to get something this week!
Where's that? Do they put them up for auction or something?
A while back I lent a car to a friend of mine. He had told me that he had cover to drive other vehicles, but this turned out not to be the case. Unfortunately he got involved in an accident (not entirely his fault as far as I've been able to ascertain, for what it's worth).
I've seen other posts on similar topics on here, but they seem to concentrate more on the legal implications of causing or permitting using a vehicle without insurance, which I'm fully aware of. What I would like to know is the implications if the third party tries to bring a claim. Obviously my insurance won't want to pay out as my friend wasn't covered under my policy. So what would the options be for the third party? ... Read more

I am thinking of buying a newish Mazda 2, the reviews that I have seen are generally

Glad you like it Simon. I think the 'fun factor' is the point of the Mazda 2 - I think I've managed to persuade my mum that it'd be an excellent upgrade from a Toytoa Aygo.
hi all.
Basically the offside rear lights have stopped working on my girlfriends car. The number plate light, boot lid cluster and main cluster have all stopped. The brake light, indicator and fog light all remain working. Looking at the light cluster, it's LED and not a single lamp, and to confirm this, I removed the cluster from the car, so that rules a lamp fault out.... Read more
There is a known rear cluster earth fault, but I've only seen it on 407s and 207s.
Here's the repair guide anyway:...

Mechatronic unt failure in my Audi resulted in the car being left at the dealership for the 3 weeks until it was fixed.
Hello, Was it their suggestion it stayed off the road or yours ? Or an instruction from Audi ?
Thanks
Hi,
I have had a problem with my 2007 mazda3 air conditioning since last summer. Basically the compressor seems to be engaging and disengaging all the time but it gets disengaged for a very long time when the weather gets hot e.g. during summer days. I asked the mazda dealer in Godalming to check the AC when I took it for a comprehensive service. They didn't have a clue (yes supposed to be mazda specialist!! www.guildford-mazda.co.uk/) and for the money that they charged me for the service to say that oh we put thermometer in the car and didn't find any fault, is just outragous. As a result I never go back there again for anything and i do not recommend them to anyone. I also took may car to the Halfords Autocentre in Guildford where they supposedly do performance test as part of their AC service (you can check this on their website here www.halfordsautocentres.com/Basket/?fasttrack=false). They recharged the AC whitout even telling me whther the level of the gas was low or not in fact they seemed like bunch of cowboy mechanics because as soon as I left their workshop I realized that the AC is not working and went straight back to them and they were just cluless. I contacted their head office and logged in a complaint, nothing has hppened yet though.... Read more
Thanks, but I already tried them. They only replace the whole compressor which is quite expensive.
