A fast fit place fitted V rated tyres to the front of the car when I specifically asked for H rated tryes. Does this matter? The tyres were fitted on 27 Apr '12. I dont want to make an issue of this if I can help it. Could it affect the handling? I should have had the tracking done at the same time, as the vehicle doesn't feel so surefooted on the roads over 30mph approx. The tyre depths are approx 7mm on the front. Does anyone know where I can find out what the new tread depth should be or how to find out?

True. But technical 'fixes' for incompetence tend to lead to a false sense of security.
Don't get me wrong, I think winter tyres are great-but, for me, the reality of keeping an extra set of wheels, both in terms of space and cost, outweighs the benefits.

Shouldn't need to but if the pads are well worn and the fluid reservoir full there is a real danger that when you retract the pistons to fit the new thicker pads the reservoir will overflow and damage your paintwork so, very carefully using a turkey baster from the pound store extract some of the fluid before you start. When you've finished top up the reservoir again and dispose of the excess fluid safely (not down the drain)
Bit of a wierd one this.

Thanks for the response Avant. It is appreciated. I will be pushing for that first thing tomorrow. I will also point out that their policy should be never to post keys through letterboxes as you rightly point out.
Wish me luck!
Does anyone know what is the size of the headlight sticker which enables you to drive on the continent with headlights not dazzling oncoming traffic. I have Audi's illustrations A94- 10186 and 101184 showing the position but not the size. The cost of purchasing these from a main agent is approximately £30.00 Read more
"Dunno-I've never had a problem with taping up headlamps, unless you leave the tape on for 12-18 months-then you might have a problem."
I've found out since it is a more of a problem with projector lamp type headlights combined with black tape due to the heat absorbtion (in my case also combined with Italian sun!) overheating the plastic surface. It crazed the surface somewhat....

my car's engine keeps cutting out whilst driving with low revs or stationary at traffic lights etc. this mainly happens when the temperature outside is hot and sunny. it even happens when doing about 30 mph and is a bit dangerous, certainly keeps me concentrating! has anyone got any ideas what it can be? i have had it at the garage and they said it was fine, obviously not the case. any diagnosis will be appreciated. He said he'd fix it at my expense. So I'm going to send a recorded letter detailing the issue and giving him 7 days to tell me the plan to fix. Otherwise I'll send him the bill.
I expect he'll get emotional about his. In the meantime I've no car....

Regardless of the fact that the national speed limit is 70mph replacement tyres need to be of the same or higher speed rating specified by the manufacturer. If your car was fitted with V rated tyres and you replaced with T rated of the same size and have an accident your insurance company will have a reason not to pay out. The speed rating not only about speed, its also about the construction and manufacturers do many 10's of thousands of miles of testing to find the best compromise and then homologate that specification. In such circumstances the Police have also been known to prosecute.
As far as the OP's post is concerned you will be fine, you have got better tyres than original.
