Hi All. We'll soon be moving to Switzerland, which means giving up our UK cars and buying a 4x4 on winter tyres (we'll be living at 1km altitude, so this is necessary apparently).
My wife has an auto only ilcense and we have 2 young children to accommodate in stage 1 & 2 rear-facing car seats. So, we need:... Read more
I was wondering if anyone can help me to put my mind at rest. In May of this year I went to court after totting up 12 points on my licence. I managed to get away without getting a disqualification by pleading special circumstances and got a £250 fine. Then yesterday I was stopped for a very dubious reason and was told that my licence had been revoked since 2010. I was in my work van which was seized and I have subsequently been charged with driving not in accordance with my licence and no insurance even though it was a work van which was fully insured. I had not received any notification of the revocation so I called the DVLA and they told me that it was because I had not sent my licence to get the points put on it. I had no knowledge of this because they were sending the mail to my old address even though I had changed my old address to my new one online. The thing that is puzzling me most is that the last two offences that got me to 12 points was jumping a red light and talking on my phone and in both those instances I was not told that my licence had been revoked. I was also not told when I went to court so how was I supposed to know that I was not supposed to be driving. Can anyone advise in what punishment that I should expect to get for this as I am fearing a ban and I will probably lose my job because of it. Read more
iN 2010 it looks as if your committed an offence involving endorsement of your Licence.
The Licence wasn't surrendered to the Court for points to be pyut on the Licence. The Court have told DSVLA of the points and that Liucence not surrendered. DVLA will say they wrote to your address and tolkd you if Licence not surfrendered in 28 days then Licence would be revoked....
When i first start the car in the morning the car will not go over 2000rpm but if you leave it running for a while(1/2 - 1 min) its runs fine 1, i have replaced the maf and it still the same.
It shudders some times and other times its fine. It seems to have a lack of power in the lower gear especially 1st.... Read more
Faulty or dirty EGR valve 1st port of call.
When pulling away in first gear, and reversing there is a significant judder, like not quite connecting with the bitting point. Have had a new clutch recently and it was worse so they changed the fly wheel. Problem is still there and mechanics can find no reason. Any ideas chaps?? Read more

Hi Guys
I managed to talk the missus out of her money pit Cooper S and she decided to get an Ibiza FR.
After looking round for a few weeks we picked up a great example this weekend. 2005, 57k on the clock and 7 stamps in the book(all but one main dealer). great looking car
but...
the car has climate control but there seems to be an issue. As soon as it it turned on at its lowest setting the fan makes a noise as though it is on full but nothing comes from the forward vents. adjusting the fan speed makes no difference.
Air does still seem to come from the windscreen vents and the top vents for the side windows but this seems to be hot air although the temp is at its lowest setting?! im stumped.
has anyone come across this before? ive gone right through the seat forums but nobody seems forthcoming with any information(possibly as im classed as a "newbie")
These problems apart i am very impressed by the Ibiza. incredibly nippy and well put together and best of all the girlfriend loves it! Read more
I would suggest that the first thing to check would be the cabin/pollen filter.Cheap to replace but often overlooked.hth
Unfortunately I do not ride my bikes nearly often enough as I should, with the result that they can stand for too long with this "orrible" ethanol polluted petrol in the tank and all the problems this can (and does) cause.
I am aware that some (but not all) "super" fuel brands are ethanol free! Can anyone better informed than me give any indication of which particular brands are thus if possible please? Read more
In the UK you can have up to 5% ethanol in petrol without disclosing the fact. I suspect pretty much all UK fuel has 5% ethanol these days because of this.
My 2009 Golf has had a problem with starting it after it has been run then parked for about 1 hour or so, it sounds very rough judders revs go up to 1200 and exhaust sounds very blarring and loud with lot of fumes (white smoke) this has been going on since new.
This can last from thirty seconds to three or four mins and then when you drive off it has no real power and kangaroos a little for a short distance, It never does it on cold starts apart from when in warm weather its normaly after being run in winter or colder conditions.... Read more
I had something similar on my 2010 Golf. First off it was a bit strained under acceleration with excessive exhaust gas/smoke. I then noticed an increasingly loud vibration coming from back seat area (particularly noticeable at idle). Took it to VW and they identified a fuel pump issue: new one fitted and now all sorted.
Cental locking and radio refuse to work and car will only start if i switch the indecators on until the milometer reads correctly and the if i attept to sound the horn this kills the engine completely ????? Read more
Thanks mate found a loose connection behind the fuse box which looked like it'd been rather hot cleaned up tightened an all is good again.
The boot lid on this car does not open at all either with key or remote control. Ithink i have two options here either cut small a square hole in panel behind rear seat hoping to get at lock mechanisem or drill out boot lid barrel. has any 1 come across across this problem before.or can offer any advice on this Regards Mickeybo Read more
Spray inside the key hole with WD40.. several times and try again.
Hi. This problem started yesterday. My Peugeout's Engine Management Light came on on 3000 revs and then the van went into 'Limp home' mode where it's been ever since. I did take it to the garage so that they could diagnose the fault but my trusty little van wouldn't talk to their fault machine so now I'm at a loss as to where to start or what the problem could be. The van wouldn't start at all last night when I tried it but this morning it starts fine and the Engine Management light stays out until you hit 3000 revs then it limps home again. Can anybody help me please? Thanks Gemma. Read more
Peugeot need a "Planet" to talk to the ECU only available at main agents and a very garages tha have invested in the program.Judging by the symptoms you have described I would firstly look at the EGR valve perhaps it only needs a good clean out.

I lived and worked there in a main dealers, but they are probably out of your price bracket (range rover) DO NOT try to import avehicle, it is even harder than people say. If your budget will run to it, get new, as the swiss used car market is just like the uk.. Buyer beware, and dealers warranties just as bad. Try a subaru, good reputation and good dealer network, as someone else says, roads are passable or not, get good winter tyres, and snow socks or similar and you will be ok, but keep your speed down... taxes and insurance are more expensive and labour costs will make your eyes water. buy yourself a sat nav with speed camera locations..
