But IJ, what you describe is a horrific accident where you were lucky to escape with your life, i think the spirit of this thread is more about those clearly fraudulent claims after being hit a less than walking pace and there's not even any damage to the car!

2000 miles on, Plus points are as follows, lots of room for driver, position is good, plenty of seat adjustment, nimble steering feels good, fuel economy 40mpg West Wales to London on A roads or motorways sticking to speed limits. equipment levels good. Dealer service at Howards of Carmarthen truly excellent! Poor points, seats VERY firm, poor visibility for clock and radio display. No boot light, relies on reflection from number plate lights which come on when boot is opened. Truly appalling dipped beam lights, but main beam is fine Read more

No, didn't do anything about bulbs, but adjusted lights to legal highest point, driving less at night now too, and slowing down as well.

Not sure i would want to buy bulbs via the post......

SWMBO wants a camper van and the likes the look of the Mazda Bongo size as driving one of the motorhome size is not to her liking when its its her turn at the wheel. Anyone any experience of these vehicles? Read more

Thanks for that. We need one that will sleep three, I don't expect a lot of room and swmbo insists it has a loo. Can any indie service them? what are they like to drive, mpg, heard its a fiddle checking the fluids as you have to move seats, thanks again.

When we started a family, we got a Rav4, which we like very much. However, we now need to get a third child in the back for school rotas, and the back seat of the Rav4 is just not wide enough.

I know that there are loads of good 7 seaters out there, but I'm looking for ideas for something interesting - as opposed to yet another Previa or Galaxy.... Read more

The Verso is about the same size as a C-Max, so it depends how big a car you need. If you get a quote from an online broker like Drivethedeal, some dealers will match it, particularly if the model has been around for some time, as with the S-Max or the Verso,

Hi,

I recently did discs & pads on my Daughters Corsa. I removed the caliper leaving the carrier in place. When I went to remove the two bolts holding it on, the bolts were not your normal hex type heads....they were almost like inverted torx type - with the slots on the outside. I'm sure I've seen similar head bolts but what size is it on the caliper carrier and what type of socket is it called??... Read more

Thanks very much for the replies guys. I've seen a decent set from Halfords for not too many pennies - so when i have the time, I'll go and have a look. there is no rush now the job has been done.

I agree totally that the manufacturers continually try to stop the home mechanic fixing his pride and joy for a lot less than dealers want to charge you....

Glad I got a full size spare after a blowout on the motorway on sunday evening. The tyre sidewall was shredded, so making it useless, and at 5pm on a busy sunday evening at the beginning of the m40 i was glad i had a spare. otherwise would have been a 200 mile recovery and my lovely breakdown company charges extra in case of punctures.. I'm with Unthrottled here, can't believe that grown able bodied men wouldn't just get on and change their own wheel.

review: "We drove the 1.4 TSI 140PS engine with the clever cylinder deactivation system. This disengages two of the cylinders when the car is under light loads, so for instance when you're off the accelerator and the car is coasting."

Surely when your foot is off the throttle and you are coasting, no modern car is injecting fuel on the over-run?

Yes I was aware of the GM work in this area. I was just questioning the suggestion that it helps on the overrun as the fuel would be cut anyway when the throttle is closed. Keeping the exhaust valve(s) open when the cylinder is being cut would of course offer the best efficiency gains due to reducing pumping loses, but you'd have to be very careful not to disturb the gas flow for the active cylinders destroying scavenging. Just cutting the spark will reduce plant food production I can't see it saving fuel with a cruising car due to the pumping loses from the deactivated cylinder. Looks like more technology and needless complexity to keep the green fraud going without actually benefiting the driver or the environment.
