4 weeks ago I took the car to my local garage as the engine was making a rattling sound from point of ignition to around 30mph (where it either stopped or was just drowned out).
After coming to the conclusion that sound was coming from the cylinder head (after initially suspecting dephaser pulley/ cam belt), the cylinder head was opened and revealed that there was substantial scoring/ grinding to the cam shaft. Was told that the damage was sufficient enough to warrant a whole new cylinder head.... Read more

Last week I left my car parked up on the pavement front and rear wheels parked up nearside.Four metres in front of me there is a sign on a post showing parking on pavement allowed viewed from my windscreen and just beyond that many cars parked up on the pavement.I have now received two penalty notices(Ileft the car there for several days).I've gone back to the "scene of the crime" and noticed that on the reverse of the parking allowed sign it shows a parking dissallowed sign which could only be read if you obviously had gone beyond sign and come back on yourself!Do you think I have a good reason to challenge?..Also has a second "offence" been committed,as I've only parked there the once but they've charged me over two consecutive days. I'd appreciate any help thanks. Read more
Is this in London?
If so pavement parking is prohibited except in those zones where it is permitted. You've seen the zone starts sign and on reverse is zone ends....
Hello all. I recently ran my Corsa battery flat by leaving the lights on. (It was a new battery although only used for one run after installation.)
After finding the battery dead, I managed to find someone with jump leads and after connecting them up, all dash lights came on and the engine turned over, but the car went totally dead again after a couple of seconds. The car now remains totally dead even when connected to a more powerful battery, my 12 plate company Peugeot 308. No dash lights come on, the horn does not work nor the central locking etc. Does anyone have any idea what could have gone? I did not hear any noises or smell any strange smells when the car went dead after jumping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, perhaps I have overlooked a relay or something.... Read more
Father had a similar experience on his Corsa C. He managed to fry the ECU using the jump leads which he hadn't properly earthed (apparently). The handbook on SWMBO's Corsa D states that the neutral cable on the jump lead should be anchored to a solid piece of metal on the receiving car and not to the battery. £300 bill for new ECU (dealer). I will not use jump leads now on any modern car - I called the breakdown service for my daughter's 2007 Fiesta when the battery died at just 3.5 years old.
Did you get it diagnosed yet?

e never foujnd a receptionist at a dealer to be any use at all: (s)he can't free up a salesperson or a service adviser, so provided that the employee deals with the customer as soon as they are free, no need for the receptionist. One such at our nearest Audi dealer a few years ago couldn't find either a salesman or a brochure, having not tried very hard - with the result that I will never go there again.
A lot of the larger, "prestige" dealers seem to have adopted the "Doctors receptionist" approach where the initial reception contact is designed primarily to prevent the customer actually getting to talk to the service manager, salesperson or whoever the customer actually needs to talk to....
I have a F Reg Peugeot 205 GR the horn and rear heated window no longer work, I have replaced the relay, checked the fuses and tried to test wire but I cannot find were they plug into the fuse board. Can some body send me a picture showing which connections I need to test or tell me were the connections are. Is there any other thing I need to test to put this problem right? Read more
Now fixed it was the fuse box, replaced and now working fine, even if it is 23 years old and French. Thank you for your help.

We are unable to set a desired temperature with/without the a/c unit activated. Whatever ambient setting - it would either blow cold or hot. Vw have already changed the sensor - to no avail. Any idea what could cause the problem. Read more
