New to the forum and just after a little advice.
I purchased my new Clio September 2011. Around February 2012 I noticed the paint had started to peel from 3 of the four arches. I popped down to my local dealership and the car was booked in to get smart repairs carried out to the damaged areas. Unfortunately when I dropped the car down the dealership went into liquidation.
This meant I had to start the claim over again, which took 8 weeks for the car to be booked in at another dealership. On top of this I had to go away with work so it was 16 weeks before it went back in. So the car went in around June 2012 and the paint finish was dreadful. I explained I wasn't happy and an the dealership arranged for an independent bodyshop to look over the car. The outcome was that, the paint finish was poor and both front wings would need spraying along with the rear o/s quarter to get the car back to a good standard.
So roll on September 2012 when the car would go back to the same Renault approved bodyshop that carried out the first repair. When I went to pick the car up I was totally gob smacked. Not only was the paint finish a million times worse but they also managed to curb a wheel. I have had an independent bodyshop look over the car again and they now think to correct the problems both wings need redoing along with most of the o/s of the car.
Unfortunately I picked the car up 2 days before I was to deploy to Afghan (where I currently am). Prior to going I was told that the car will be going back to the same bodyshop again!!!!!! On my return in January.
I have informed them I don't want it going there as I did the second time but they won't budge.
If anyone can shed a little light on where I stand I would be ever so thankful.
Paul

I suspect you have a faulty sensor, a code reader should find out which one.
Anyone else use Fixmystreet or take it up directly with the Councils website?
I do. I try to report half a dozen at a time. They do seem to be fixing them albeit slowly. My experience is that Essex CC respond better to the Fixmystreet site as long as you post a photo. I guess it shames them.... Read more
What is a 'reasonable' amount of time? Councils are likely to be weaselly about this sort of vagueness!
We have had our Grand CMax 1.6 manual diesel 14 months with less than 10000 miles, half motorway, half local.
We have both been driving 50+ years a wide range of manuals and automatics.... Read more
I have also been driving 50+ years and have never burnt a clutch although my mother did twice. Modern diesels have excellent low down torque so will pull away with very little clutch slip, if you have been used to driving petrol engines you may well be revving the engine more than is necessary. My mother burned out her last clutch by following a herd of cows up a steep hill with the clutch slipping instead of stopping and waiting.
I don't of course know your style of driving but I do know that a lot of people in our age group do unnecessaraly slip the clutch, using a lot more revs than needed. When you have the job done ask them to keep the friction plate so you can examine it, if it is worn down to the rivets then it will be due to excessive slipping, the clutch should never need be slipped for more than a second or two.
Need some advice please - sadly a week ago the other half was involved in a car accident involving a pedestrian. A young man attempted to cross a dual carriageway, running into the side of the car and, long story short, he is in a bad way in hospital. It appears that he may have been drinking, but that is really besides the point. It has been a terrible time for all involved but, much as I hate to even think about practicalities, we are now facing a real problem as the police have seized the car. The other half has not been charged with anything and all roads seem to be pointing towards the fact that there was nothing he could have done to prevent the accident - the police have been good enough to say that there doesn't seem to have been anything he could have done to prevent the incident. The car, however, won't be released until the hospital give the all clear which could be weeks or months. The car had just passed the MOT and there is no suggestion that there are any defects (it is only 4 years old and has less than 40k miles on it) - it has been explained that it is just procedure that the car is retained until the hospital give the "green light" which, God willing, they will at some point as it will mean the fella is out of the woods health wise. Whilst the main concern remains the young man's wellbeing, I am having to cancel important hospital appointments and to be frank, have no idea how I am going to get into work next week (I have a problem with my back that limits my walking to minimal amounts so getting public transport is not an option). The insurance company have said that they can do nothing about a courtesy car until the car is released - is there any point in pursuing this with them? Having to try and hire a car indefinitely would just financially destroy us. Any advice gratefully received. Read more
Remember that every vehicle collision is now treated as a crime scene-the term "accident" is no longer in the police vocabulary. Various police forces do nowadays have widely varying procedures according to the whims and fancies of their chief constables-remember that idiot Brunstrom in north wales?
IIRC the policy that every accident involving injury was to be treated as a crime scene, changing the focus from getting the traffic moving to stopping it for the duration, was put in place by that same Richard "I'm a motorist-hating nazi and proud of it" Brunstrom, while head of traffic policy at ACPO....
my vectra just failed an mot due to engine misfiring on idle causing ommision failure. About 2 years ago it had an engine light coming on and the engine stopping or juddering. Stop the car for a few minutes then started and ran fine. had a garage do a dianostic and they said it was either the camshaft or crankshaft sensor. Changed the camshaft sensor and it was fine until about 6 months ago. Started to intermitently cut out when engine was idling. Adjusted the throttle cable which cured it but sometimes it would over rev at junctions. It still runs very lumpy on idle and is obviously misfiring. Ok when its going no problem. Have tried various things suggested on the various forums youtube etc. New plugs new air filter cleaned carb all leads spark ckecked hoses and tightentened dissconnected and cleaned MAF unit as yet not engine temp sensor. Have read on this site it could be and engine ecu earth fault, but also someone seems to think it could be the ECU itself, but as this is a costly exercise to test repair or replace i thought I'd ask your advice as to my next move. Help needed asap as I'm self employed and this is my work vehicle
Many thanks Read more
the voltage has to be measured at the TPS, throttle position sensor, cant remeber when the screw is in the correct position the voltage should be iether .53 or.58 of a volt.
Normally back the screw off untill the flap just stick and screw in 1/4 turn. Its a starting point. allow the ecu to relearn the idle once adjusted.
Is this a clutch problem?
Not being technical minded on cars, if I accelerate hard whilst over-taking or drop a gear going up a steep hill the engine sometimes over-revs, but the car does not go any faster. If I lift off things seem ok. Otherwise she runs fine and is very reliable. This is a high miler. Read more
I agree.
We have just gone digital in the north east. I have a new digital radio but I can only get about 15 stations and none of the local radio stations, funnily enough I can get LBC. My question is, as I am just using the radio's own aerial, would an indoor digital area get more stations. I'm not sure how digital radio signals work. Read more
Oh great, i am happy that it helped :) I am sure that you are not the only one with this problems - in fact, several people came up to me because of that problem. Maybe I should do some flyers, so that i could help everyone right away when they ask me about that the next time ;) Have a nice week, Drivethru!
