hi, my wife has just had her fiesta M.O.Td it passed, but in the advisory notes it said that power steering had a slight leak, and a new rubber would be needed underneath and could be replaced by her husband (me) quite easily! i checked the resevoir and around the down pipe hose and all was dry. Any ideas or answers to this so called simple problem? much appreciated. suffolk Read more

I think the MOT tester probably imagined that you had average DIY skills and a few spanners, take it to a garage and pay £100 if you don't.

We use Thrifty Car Hire at work. Just looked at their web site and at normal public rates you can have a Mondeo for 49 days (7 weeks) for £1108.38. £15,000 for car hire is robbery and that should be your reason for not paying.

I can understand your insurers being unwilling to pay the full amount, if I were them I would not be prepared to pay more than the going rate i.e. just over £1,000....

Both headlights are not working, The right went frst followed by the left the next day. Each light is seperately fused. and both fuses are good. I haven't checked the bulbs yet but find it too much of a coincidence that both bulbs would die at almost the same time. I've still got full beam and sidelights. Any ideas please? Read more

Mike, are you suggesting when one bulb blows this increases the voltage of the supply to the other lamp? The current through a bulb is subject to Ohm's Law, isn't it?

Vehicle laid up over Xmas and New Year (3months) unfortunately battery was flat when we went to restart the car, recharged battery and everything was back to normal except the alarm which goes off everytime we lock the vehicle. On checking the manual Mazda suggest that the vehicle be taken to one of their main dealers who for a small sum will reprogramme the Key / Alarm.

On enquiring at my "local" dealer who is 30 odd miles away what this cost would be I was advised that it would be a minimum of £78 + VAT and the service person advised me that she doubted if that would be all it would cost and would more than likely be the ECU that would be found to be at fault which I find hard to believe as the vehicle has only covered 30,000 odd miles and everything else is working perfectly.... Stressed and needs help!

My Mazda 3 TS (diesel) died 2 weeks ago. They have stripped engine down to advise that this was caused due to wear on #1 and #4 big end bearings due to insufficient or poor quality oil - as such they will not cover under warranty as we were late in getting it serviced (by circa 3k miles).

The car was serviced in December 2011 (admittedly circa 5 weeks late) but at that time the Mazda garage did not flag any issues with low oil. The car was running like a dream and my husband checks oil every 2 weeks. It is always fine. ... Read more

I'm looking to replace my trusty old Yaris with something slightly larger. There isn't actually anything wrong with the Yaris despite being 12 years old but I need more space as I travel about a dozen times a year to model railway shows and just don't have the space to carry all my stuff any more.

I don't want anything significantly bigger as parking is a problem where I live. While I'm happy with the power/weight ratio from the old 1.0 engine something slightly better wouldn't go amiss. I certainly wouldn't want to step down in power.... Read more

Going back to an old thread but I've still not chosen and another idea has come to mind...

What do people think about the Merc A class? I've seen 07 reg ones for under £6k locally. I don't know how much more it would cost to run but it strikes me it would be the right size and quality for what I'm looking at....

Hi All I wonder if you can help me with a decision? I absolutely would love a 7 seater diesel , however, I am in experieced with buying car so I was wondering whether anyone can recommend a reliable Diesel 7 seater car , my budget is really low( £800-£1500) so that's a restriction, but any advice will be welcomed . Hi all, just had the alternator removed/refitted (with a new belt) after I refurbed/fixed it. (I don't currently have the ability to get underneath it).

This car has a/c so the compressor was also dropped (but not disconnected) to get to the alternator.... Read more

I wouldn't have thought putting WD40 on the belt is such a good idea, it's a lubricant, not much of one, but it's a lubricant all the same.

Thats just what is not ,spraying wd40 or variants as described is the correct way to proceed.
