I had the cam belt replaced a couple of weeks ago and since collecting the car from the garage I've been hearing knocking when changing gears mainly, I checked under the car today and the off side drive shaft has considerable play and makes the same "clunking" noise when I move it with my hand. About two weeks before the cam belt change the car passed the MOT test, so nothing wrong with the drive shafts then (not even any advisories). The mechanic though, doesn't think it's a consequence of anything that he could have done. I dont know what to do, he told me that in order to replace the belt he had to undo the right engine mount so logically, there could have been damage caused to the shaft if the engine wasn't supported properly. What are the chances that he could have caused the damage? Read more

Can we assume that the starter motor doesn't operate at all (as opposed to turning the engine but the engine not firing)?

Last year, there was some 17-18 year old on the local news who had bought a 40 year old tractor to drive to college, as the insurance was £50 a year. I wonder if this could be used for NCB accruel?
If so, a new driver who can't afford a car could just get insurance for one even a scrap one) and build up no claims bonus.
I have started to notice the central locking mechanism clicking when I am driving longer distances and if locking the driver’s side door this will be unlocked in the morning - this tends to be on cold days..
Also the speakers are not working despite a relatively new radio correctly wired and with working facia is this electrical fault all linked? ... Read more
hi wilst i agree with the above explanation you said the door speakers arnt working i would try inspecting the wiring loom plugs that connect from the door to the hinge pillow and make sure firstly that they are secure if thats the case then check for any breaks or possible damp in the connectors them selves
hope this helps...
Afternoon all,
Having a really frustrating experience at the moment trying to spend £10k on a car... not massive amounts compared to the cost of some cars I agree, but massive to me.... Read more
Stop doing the running around and let them.
I suspect the car doesn't exist (at least not as described). We're in a recession, if they want to sell then they'll work for it....
Over the Easter break I took a trip to our regional shopping mall in Basingstoke to pick up wife & children from a day's account draining. I was very surprised to see a typical retail unit, on the second floor, transformed into a VW showroom, with a Polo, an Up! and the new Beetle squashed into a shop floor barely bigger than a typical jewellers.
Ok, car displays in shopping centre's is nothing new, but this was no temporary arrangement parked on the ground floor aisles. This is a dedicated VW store with cars crammed into it, on the second floor balcony, next to a health & supplement store. ... Read more
Or "the automotive lemon".
It has 160000 mileage and they are asking 1250 for it , love to hear others thoughts on it . I think the mileage is too high . its 2.0 diesel engine and has a year MOT
And thanks for pointing out the spam, which I've removed - hence the edit to your post.
To the OP: The mileage needn't be a problem if the car has been looked after and driven well: you have no way of knowing for sure, but a full service history is an indication, and essentiual for a diesel. Have a look on Autotrader for Zafiras of similar age and mileage to see how the price compares: you haven't told us how old it is.
There is a detailed and , IMHO, fascinating thread on Cash for Crash insurance frauds, written by a former claim investigator running here;

I would say possible but unlikely. Does the shaft slide in and out of the engine? could be that the centre bearing is loose.
