Hi There
I bought a car from a dealer just under a month ago, car was priced at full price for that age and spec, no reason to suspect there was anything wrong with it.... Read more
The car is out of warranty now so why go to the VW dealer.
Phone around a few independant VW specialists or local garages that have a good reputation. I'm sure they will all beat VW by quite a margin.
I have noticed that some of the larger diesels like the Jag 2.7 Volvo 2.4 D5 and the Audi 3.0 TDI as well BMW 730D seem to suffer less than some of smaller offerings by the same brands.
Are these better engines in general with inherently less faults or I am i talking through my ..... ?... Read more
It's probably true that larger diesels are more durable ,however the fuel economy is not that great ,my E270 auto CDi ,can only manage 28 mpg around town .

I thought I'd seen everything after nigh on 30 years of driving: pretty much every act of human (and sub-human) stupidity imaginable on two, three and four wheels. But no.
On Saturday I witnessed from the Place Charles de Gaulle roundabout (under the Arc de Triomphe - as a pedestrian, I hasten to add) a driver in a red Corsa hesitate nervously immediately after one of the twelve exits as he realised he had missed his turning. So he MADE A U-TURN and started driving back in the opposite direction. On realising there were about 500 cars and buses thundering towards him Continental-style (i.e. anti-clockwise) he again TURNED ROUND and drove round the roundabout once more. I couldn't help but watch as a minute later the driver reached Av. Wagram, braked sharply and executed a sharp 90 degree turn right in front of a Czech tourist coach and a police minibus and carried merrily on his way. Read more

Hi,
I would be grateful for any advice. My son took his car to local garage to have clutch replaced about 3 weeks ago. Job seemed to take longer than advised, about 3 days. Garage said job was difficult. About 2 days afterwards he found he could not get into second gear. Garage said to bring back and they would adjust linkages. This fixed problem for a day and then problem returned. Garage says problem must be in gear box as they cannot get it into second even when linkage is removed. We have contacted garage daily for a week and he says he is waiting to talk to someone who knows about gear boxes. I feel we are being fobbed off. There were no problems with gears before clutch was replaced.... Read more
They don't sound like a garage one would recommend then, if they can't change a clutch. Sounds to me like they've done something wrong and now they're fobbing you off. Gear linkages need setting correctly, but they're the professionals and it ain't rocket science. If it's a hydraulic clutch I wonder if they're having trouble bleeding it, but if so, why won't they tell you. I suppose you need to just keep taking it back until they get it right, don't pay any more unless they come up with a genuine reason.
my car fuel consumption has increased. dash board showing check engine and air bag fault icons. what is the problem? Advice me on what to do. Thanks Read more
What engine: petrol, 1.9, 2.1, or Hdi?
I have been rethinking my situation and I believe that an Accord 2.2 diesel represents great value for money in the £4k range.

Yes indeed, it does have the newer version of the diesel engine. It offers smoother performance over the CDTi, and is very responsive, also like a petrol, but with that extra torque. Fuel consumption is averaging just over 38, against 40 for the Accord Tourer. Given the extra weight and shape of the CRV then I am more than happy.
I have an Omega estate, 1998 2.5CDX. - 140,000 almost trouble free miles. Now, once warm the engine is prone to cutting out and wont restart - suggestion is that fuel supply is interrupted. Engine turns over easily but wont fire. If allowed to cool down (say 20 mins) then engine starts as normal and runs quite smoothly until the next stoppage Read more
I would think the crank/rpm sensor is faulty.Very common on these for cutting out and non start. It is located in the engine block ,next to the oil filter.Bit of a pig to change as the wiring runs under part of the inlet manifold.Best to just cut the old cable off and re-route it via an easier path. Also make sure you get the correct sensor .There are 2 types for this engine. One has rectangular plug, the other has a rounded end plug.hth
I am slowly narrowing down my choices for a good sized Estate/4x4/MPV under £2000
The choiceis twofold - reliability, mpg ( thats the head talking ) and style ( heart talking )... Read more
My choice would be Volvo, you don't need diesel for that mileage.

The mapping on Garmin leaves a lot to be desired TT mapping leads by country mile.Even with the latest map update many major roads in europe are missing and the directions are pretty useless relegated the Garmin to a drawer and bought a TT.
