Hi guys new on here, im currently looking at buying a 97 Ford Fiesta 1.8 bog standard diesel. I want a cheap no nonsense car with not much (hopefully) to go wrong!
The car will have a new years MOT, service history from a ford dealer and 4 new tyres. The car has only covered 47000, and apparently was owned in the last few years by an old guy who has to give up driving, so he never done many miles in it, the thing is, is this something to worry about?? what other problems should i look out for?... Have had some problems with my battery draining recently on my 54 plate 2.0 TDCI Mondeo. Following recommendation from the Green Flag man to replace the battery as it is the original battery, I ordered a new one online by simply entering the registration plate of my car.
It arrived today and after fitting it i noticed that the RC and Ah numbers do not match on the original and new batteries. On the old (original battery) its 125 RC and 70Ah and on the new battery RC 135 and Ah75. ... Read more
Congratulations, sir, on finding, for the same physical size, a battery with a slightly better rating than the original! No limit.. More reserve capacity, more amp hours, the better. Go for it if you have to fit a new one! However... have you got a battery which will work with Ford's 'Smartcharge' system? The answer to that will be 'Yes' because you put in your car's registration! Ordering new bits is so easy these days!
Hi I have a 2004 passat 1.9tdi, highline, last week I was driving with the heated seat on and the seat seems to have short circuited and burnt a hole the size of a cigarette burn in the leather and my jeans,
I have done a bit of Internet research and found this is a problem that has happened before on this model.
The car has full service with my local vw dealer, I know it is well out of warranty but feel this is a serious fault, after speaking to the dealer they initially said they will inspect the car and send a report to VW about a good will warranty repair, but now after speaking to VW they say due to the age and mileage of the car there is nothing they can offer me.
Am I expecting too much asking VW to sort it out?
Or should I take it further ? Read more
Amazing well done
Hi there,
The vehicle has recently developed a smoky exhaust when sat stationary when fully warm. The colour is a whiteish grey. The car has done 72k miles and has had a recent service. The water level has remained the same and i've noticed no noticeable difference in the oil level. The smoke has a definite smell to it, which I liken to a burnt fishy type of smell! ... Read more
I thougt subaru's never went wrong ?
I have had this car for three years and like it. However, I have had some problems recently - a new ABS sensor (£450) and seemingly random EMS lights. It has done 37k miles. I am wodering about a change to a similar size of car. If I went for the 1.8 petrol I would avoid the DPF issues I read about, but at the cost of mpg. I like the look of the Hyundai i30, and of the ix35. But the petrol engines look uninspiriing and I keep hearing about problems with diesels. So I am confused. Any advice please? Read more
Thanks. I was told by my garage man to steer clear of that engine. Do you think that the problems have now been solved? He reckoned that all that technology was just too much to keep going - 'even VW don't understand it'. Happy to get a correction!
When my daughter gets into her car ,before she can start the engine, she has to turn the remote on and off before it will start the engine. Could anyone please tell me what the problem is.? Many thanks Read more
Nothing wrong with the pre-2000 Renaults-they're very reliable. ChannelZ-carry on blowing up crudely and greedily chipped astras
OP-The imobiliser works as it is designed to. It is a very irritating feature. If the ignition is not switched on within 30 seconds of unlocking the car remotely, then the imobiliser is re-applied. Invariably, the engine will still crank on the starter, which just adds to the confusion. The only fix is to pin the door opening sensor shut, so that the imobiliser is never applied....
We will be travelling from Calais to Pont-Aven in Brittany this June.
The sat-nav can take us there by either using toll roads or avoiding them. The journey time difference is about 1 1/2 hours and I believe the toll charges would be about £25 in total. There's very little difference in distance.
We're in no hurry, so are inclined to take the slightly more scenic route and save ourselves £50 there and back. However, I have no idea if there are certain toll roads that save a significant amount of time at relatively low cost. So does anyone know if there are any individual toll roads on the route that are absolute no brainers in terms of cost / time saving? Equally, are there any individual tolls that are relatively expensive that don't actually save very much journey time.
What I'm getting at is along the lines of, if the Pont de Normandie toll is say £5, but saves 45 minutes on the journey, we'd be inclined to use that part of the route and avoid all the other tolls.
TIA for any advice. Read more
Warning triangle is mandatory in France.
Dear All. The o/s electric folding mirror no longer folds, other functions i.e. mirror adjustment and heating work fine, it just will not fold. I have scoured the internet and cannot find out if this can be repaired. I found several place I can buy a new one, but as it was assembled from parts I assume it can be un-assembled to faff around with. I cannot see any way of taking it to bits, if I faff around with it the worse that can happen is it still doesn't work so no loss. Can anyone help please. Regards Alan Read more
I can't see one for £30. They are £65 plus £5 delivery. Non-electric folding ones are cheaper.
Searching for an exhaust manifold for this 2001 RHD car. Hard to find, but have noticed that Mitsubishi sold a different model, the Carisma ( as much Charisma as a piece of wet cardboard ) with exactly the same engine, 1834cc GDi , can I assume this part will be the same and fit the Shogun ?
