Skoda Octavia - Car making noise after being at the mechanics - Tim Ch

I had the cam belt replaced a couple of weeks ago and since collecting the car from the garage I've been hearing knocking when changing gears mainly, I checked under the car today and the off side drive shaft has considerable play and makes the same "clunking" noise when I move it with my hand. About two weeks before the cam belt change the car passed the MOT test, so nothing wrong with the drive shafts then (not even any advisories). The mechanic though, doesn't think it's a consequence of anything that he could have done. I dont know what to do, he told me that in order to replace the belt he had to undo the right engine mount so logically, there could have been damage caused to the shaft if the engine wasn't supported properly. What are the chances that he could have caused the damage?

I would say possible but unlikely. Does the shaft slide in and out of the engine? could be that the centre bearing is loose.
