My 2003 Octavia TDI has in the past year or so developed an intermittent lack of boost.
Having looked around the web it seems that here is a common fault with the VGT turbo where the vanes become clogged.
Here seems to be a few places on the web hat claim to be able to fix this by cleaning the turbo. Some by taking it of and others in situ.
Is this a realistic fix? And if so can anyone recommend a firm (ideally near ish to the south coast)

Hello in need of serious help.

Less than a month ago we purchased a 2 year old car from a well known ford dealership E/H in edinburgh for £7202.... Read more

Well done Jimmyears. However I could not put up with losing £700 like that. You probably have to earn at £1000 to clear £700. You would not walk into the showroom and donate £700 to the garage because they want to sell you a car. It was all their mistake, you should not be out of pocket, they are still making a handsome profit from you. I would be tempted to contact 'the legalizer' on this forum and sue for the return of your £700 despite the fact they apologised and exchanged the car. Good luck Concrete

It seems a bit peevish to be complain about a 'copycat' fuel economy database since the idea of collating data on fuel economy is so generic and goes back to the first days of motoring. You can't claim a patent/trademark on an idea that's been in the public domain for over a hundred years!

Fuel economy databases suffer from the problem that, without knowing the nature of the style of driving, the figures are meaningless. They also suffer from the problem of randomisation bias which, no matter how large the sample of data, cannot be ameliorated.... Read more

Just bought a really clean 2000 Laguna estate for donkeywork renovating a house. very useful car and boot space a1. one gripe is the very poor quality of the radio reception. The reception is abysmal and listening to any radio station is a joke. I can't see an external aerial so I assume its wired into the rear screen. Any ideas of a possible ficx or location of associated amplifier? Cheers Read more

After some more pondering over this, my memory is becoming a bit clearer and I now think that the aerial is built in to the rear Off Side quarter glass. I also think there is an amplifier in the system that is connected via an aerial lead from the radio and could be located behind the rear OS quarter panel trim. What I wrote about checking that the connections are clean (and the earth good) similarly applies. I remember that the radio (reception?) was not very good at the best of times. I am sure you can see if the heated rear screen circuit is broken if you inspect it carefully. Over and out.

Hi

At the end of last year, I was having problems with my Corsa as it was losing power whilst driving and kept cutting out on me. I took it to my local garage who informed me that I needed to have a new computer board fitted. I was advised to take it to my local Vauxhall garage.... Read more

I wouldn't consider all Vauxhall dealers crooks.

In your position I'd be looking at independent advice, and local law firms....

I took my car to the local garage (in Yorkshire) because a warning light was displayed on my dash. They said the alternator was broken and agreed to repair it for £380.

I told them i needed car asap as I was taking family holiday in France next week. They fixed problem and I set off to France.... Read more

Hi,write to the repairer in Yorkshire ,enclosing copies of the invoices you paid in France ,plus a receipt for the accommodation and the hire car .

Give them 14 days to pay , telling them you intend to pursue a claim in the small claims court ,if the money's not forthcoming ,issue a claim in the small claims court ,cost to you £200.

When you win your case as you certainly will ,they will have to pay your invoices ,plus the court costs.

The scc is a simple process ,forum members will provide more advice on the process if you need it .

Good luck

...which is why my car has always 'lived' at my parents' address!

Fraud? No way! Any claim would be a 3rd party one and that part of the insurance cannot be 'voided' anyway. My postcode has no bearing on my driving. I doubt any of the whiplash crew would pick my car for a scam because they'd probably assume that I didn't have any insurance...

What we have to do for the kids. Daughter's existing car got to go. She would like next to be OK for camping/DIY etc. Expert/Dispatch seem right, and, after surfing for days we,ve found, not a mile away, a one owner (printing delivery) Expert 08 plate (new model) recent MOT, full service included

It is in excellent internal and external condition, claims FSH which I would of course check and is on local garage forecourt at £3995. The milage is 184K..... Read more

I need to get across to th A1 from the Manchester area. Normally I would do this on M62 but with the current roadworks I would like to know what the situation is likely to be at approx 7-8 am on a Thursday. The last time I did this it took ages to get through the area around Leeds and this was before any roadworks had started. I imagine it is now considerably worse. The other alternative of the Woodhead pass is again subject to roadworks as far as I know and is slow at the best of times.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best alternative route. I can go further south and use the A50 or use the Buxton / Chesterfield road.... Read more

Delays are running at anything from 15 minutes to 40 minutes. There's been an accident or something this morning as well (Croft interchange). I used to avoid it on my way to work and come of the M6 early, but it even without roadworks the M62 problems would knock on to the M6, sometimes back up to Chorley, and it'd take me another half hour on top of my usual time to get to work.
