Direct Line offer 2 years NCB after just 1 year. Does this mean I can take my DL renewal quote and get 2 years NCB of another insurer..? Just asking..

I very much doubt it. Sounds like a 2-for-1 offer so to speak from direct line themselves. Its just their way of saying they'll give you a discount equivalent to their usual two year discount after just one year. To every other insurance company it is what it is - one years NCD.

Thanks. But when I send my renewal notice to another insurer, it will clearly say I have 2 years NCB. So looks like I could be quids in...

...if it makes any difference at all. I sometimes think the insurance companies just put your details into a random number generator which decides how much they can extort out of you based on the value of the car and your occupation :-)

Biggest effect after age, of course, is from postcode. Moving from a city where I parked on the street to a different city where I live in the suburbs and have a garage etc actually raised my insurance. The lad on the end of the phone for the ins. company said that postcode was the biggest hitter aside from age of driver.

...which is why my car has always 'lived' at my parents' address!

Fraud? No way! Any claim would be a 3rd party one and that part of the insurance cannot be 'voided' anyway. My postcode has no bearing on my driving. I doubt any of the whiplash crew would pick my car for a scam because they'd probably assume that I didn't have any insurance.

Somebody I work with is with Direct Line and they were crashed into by somebody in some 4x4 in October and the insurance company still hasn't done anything. She's considering going to the ombudsman because DL have obviously sold a product that does absolutely nothing.

My car is only worth 1500 uk pds. The excess is 500uk pds, plus the fact I would likely not get the full 1500 ukpds if there was a claim. Add in the loss of NCB and increased premiums and basically I am effectively not insured at all. I am quite happy to be self insured for damage to my 10 year old car, but not a happy for an insurance co to pretend they are insuring for a risk, when they are not. I could of course request third party only cover, but that can increase the premium further (doubtless based on the post code..!)

The Conservative Government has too many friends in the insurance industry.

They are the Real Criminals.

Not the young lads who can't afford their ridiculous rip-off prices.

And they engage the Police to act for the rich bankers, it's insult upon injury!
