I need to get across to th A1 from the Manchester area. Normally I would do this on M62 but with the current roadworks I would like to know what the situation is likely to be at approx 7-8 am on a Thursday. The last time I did this it took ages to get through the area around Leeds and this was before any roadworks had started. I imagine it is now considerably worse. The other alternative of the Woodhead pass is again subject to roadworks as far as I know and is slow at the best of times.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best alternative route. I can go further south and use the A50 or use the Buxton / Chesterfield road.... Read more

My trusty serviceman showed me the pollen filter that he had replaced in a recent service. I was surprised at the quantity of dirt in there. I told him at the time that I suffer from tree pollens in the early spring, and the only time that I get relief is when I'm driving the car. Read more
Can anyone explain why they only fit cabin filters with air-con?
Because in hot weather, people without aircon open windows.

I pump from a Peugeot 405 or early Xantia should do and yes you will need to change the pipes as well as the ouputs are in different positions, it wont run with the old pipes, it will probably be OK with the existing injectors but ideally thay need to be changed as well. Did they not uses Bosch pumps on the ZX?

Any one out there ever had this problem Please advise. Read more
I would say that the pedal going to the floor is due to a leaking master cylinder.
I've got a problem with the failure of the dashboard - all readings gone haywire and odometer resetting itself. I've used a company called Cluster Repairs to look at it and they say it should now work but it needs a code to put it back in the car.
I know Renault will charge an arm and a leg for this and it annoys me that they always say it's not a known problem- it's known to everybody else! Are there other companies (preferably around Lancashire) that can determine and insert the code? Read more
Just a word of warning if by chance you haveto remove the dashboard remember to use the proper bar between the door pillars to stop the windscreen cracking.
Im at my wits end someone please help me. I purchased my car in sept 2011 and 6 weeks ago was involved in a head on accident (fortunately no one hurt). My insureres sent my car with cosmetic damage and broken power steering to the designated repairer. I rang the repairer several times explaining about the power steering and this was blatantly ignored. 12 days later the repairers stated the car was ready for delivery when i paid my excess of £200 but had not repaired the steering as they could find no fault. I refused to take delivery of it until they had checked properly. This was done the following day and lo and behold, the fault was found. The story should end there but alas, the repairers then said that the car had been involved in a previous accident prior to me purchasing it and the repair was not correctly done so the power steering could have broken at any point! My insurers the contacted me to say that the repirers had stated that they did not believe that the accident could cause power steering failure. Citroen garage then contacted my insurer for me to say that any damage to the front of the vehicle could actually cause the damage. My insurers then instructed an independent engineer to check the car and he has stated that he thought the previous bad repairs were the fault and therefore the insurance company will not pay out. My point is that the steering was brill prior to accident and didnt work after it. The repairers should have assessed this prior to completing minor cosmetic damage and they now want £200 excess before they will release my car to me still without power steering. What can I do? I dont want to pay to release my car that still remains broken and the insurers will want the courtesy car back leaving me with nothing :( Read more

Strange that "independant" engineers employed by insurance companies nearly always seem to come up with answers that favour the company that is paying them.

Honda have gone back to a CVT due to issues with auto manuals. If Honda don't like them that's good enough for me.
A colleague has a C3, does the job, but French peculiarities annoy him including quirks with the radio and a badly placed handbrake.
My Dad has a Jazz. The inside is black and black so a bit gloomy and the ride on the large wheels is harsh.
Hi
I have poor fuel economy and performance with my Mazda MX5. It is a 2001 Mk2. It is too old to have OBDII DLC connector sadly. However, it an underbonnet Diagnostics socket. Using an LED, I have uncovered the following fault codes: 11, 13, 14, and 15. I have a list of Mk1 codes but can't find the Mk 2 codes anywhere. Can anybody help? Cross-matching the codes to the Mk1 list gives the following results:... Read more

Dear Sir,
I was surprised to find a Penalty Charge Notice pasted on my car even after I had paid for a display ticket. I was not aware of the fact that I had parked my vehicle in a permit holder bay where pay and display tickets were not valid.
I did not see the permit sign as there was only one, and the view of it was very restrictive, with very little distance from it and the normal parking zones, and also there was a van parked in front of the sign restricting my view.
As soon as I got the ticket that was outside the town hall where I was attending training for my job as a support worker for disabled adults, I went to appeal in the council offices next to the town hall, I was told that I would hear back from them in two weeks but never did in till I got a letter on the 12/4/12. I was told during my appeal that the price of the ticket would be suspended at 35 pounds in till I heard back from you, but instead got a letter with the upped charge of 70 pounds.
I will include pictures I've taken to support my appeal with the ticket I bought on the day, thought the lady at the desk when I made an appeal made a photo copy of it.
I would appreciate your gesture of good will if you could accept my appeal and kindly waive the charge.
Thank you.*
Sincerely yours,*
Richard"

Constructive & well-meaning advice: Any attempt to fight the charge through the courts will lead to you having to pay a lot of legal costs with little prospect of success...
My Focus TDCi estate goes back in September and I have a choice of one of these as a company car for the next four years: Toyota Avensis 120D Comfort Cross Sport; Renault Grand Scénic Expression Energy DCi110; Renault Laguna Grand Tour EMotion DCi 110 Eco2; Ford C-Max 1.6 TDCi 115 Trend (The model designations are for the Spanish market).
I've ruled out the C-Max as it's too similar to my Focus Estate and has the lowest trim level but am torn between the two Renaults and the (British built) Toyota, which are also at the bottom of the range but seem a little more upmarket.... Read more
Please think twice about the pathetic Renault with the equally pathetic eco2 dci engine.
I had nothing but trouble from said engine in a megane iii.
In fact in using less petrol to cover more miles in a Qashqai than I was using diesel in the Megane eco2.
Find my posts to read about the problems I had with it.

Delays are running at anything from 15 minutes to 40 minutes. There's been an accident or something this morning as well (Croft interchange). I used to avoid it on my way to work and come of the M6 early, but it even without roadworks the M62 problems would knock on to the M6, sometimes back up to Chorley, and it'd take me another half hour on top of my usual time to get to work.
