I currently have a ford focus estate 1.6 petrol, which handles like a bag of ****. I want a car that i can fit, 3 kids car seats, 2 dobermans and a large pram in.For under £4000, possibly diesel??? And that handles nicely (i owned an alfa 156 before the ford, so was spoilt in terms of handling). Any suggestions, i dont want ford again. No renaults as they leak like sieves, known from personal experience. Other makes i dont like, peaugeot, rover, kia, hyundai, skoda (it is still a skoda no matter how pretty they make it look), i think that might be it. Any ideas? Read more
Just out of curiosity I clicked the ad for the above on the HJ home page. On the link I couldn't find the offer of £13,995 for the car advertised. The link also uses petrol prices of 113p per gallon to calculate fuel costs. It says those are recalculated annually but was fuel really that cheap within a year? On the whole a pretty missleading advert that should not be hosted by HJ surely? Read more
I agree entirely with Unthrottled. Look no further than the sentence on the first screen.

Also saw my first Hyundai Veloster a fortnight ago - not bad from the front and side, but very odd from the rear. What is it with modern coupes thesedays? Apart from the very good looking Audi TT, so many have ugly-looking (relative to the rest of the views) rears, as well as tiny rear windscreens. How about a nice sloping roof with a good-sized rear window like coupes from 10 years+ ago?
Hi. Car is a 2008 68k Volvo V50 2.0 petrol (actually the Ford Zetec engine).
Only had the car 5 months, done 8k in it. Will ask about this when it is next serviced at 75K but....
I know power is very subjective but I find it pretty gutless for a 2.0. There seems very little power under 4000rpm, after which it is better but doesn't really get going. Hills require down changes to keep a constant speed etc.
It also seems to have a slight misfire at idle. When accelerating hard it seems to hold itself back, intermitently surging through out the rev range - hard to discribe but feels like it coughs 3 or 4 times as you accelerate from say 2000 to 6000rpm. Also if you rev it when in neutral it is distinctly rough sounding and feeling. Final thing, fuel economy is poor at 32mpg (it should do 38mpg)... Read more

With any sat nav, its not the initial cost that one needs to be aware of, it is also the cost of updating the mapping. For 1400 euros, you could replace your existing Tomtom with a new model, put some aside for map updates, and still save a considerable amount. Also on this class of car, a built-in sat nav adds zero value to the car come the time when you may wish to change.
My good lady was left stranded yesterday in her 1998 Audi A6 AEB 1.8T. As she was pulling away onto a roundabout there was a clunk and then no drive. On investigation today the drive shaft has snapped just as it comes out of the cv joint. Has anyone found a decent supplier of these shafts as Audi was £359 inc VAT exchange for the shaft. i know these are thirsty but ive put about£70in and done 50 miles?that might not be too bad but the car reaks of fuel and the fuel gauge drops from near half full to just above empty/bottom mark in just about 3 to 5 miles?im not sayin i get half the tank for 5 miles i was just enquiring if its a fault or normal?and could a fuel leak be a problem as i say it does reak of fuel on small journeys.~????ALSO THE ANTI POLUTION FAULT has appeared on my newly bought 2002 model and i wouyld love to hear of a remedy for this coz as it sounds to me it sounds like sensor problems followed by ecu reading wrongly...maybe a new lambda sensor and a cat sensor along with the latest relative mapping of the ecu might do it?just an idea?please respond about my fuel leak query, thanks.
