I have a very frustrating situation.
I have a recurring brake shudder. It has happened three times and I am onto my third set of discs in 10 months. ... Read more
If you can see outlines of the pads on the disc, then the shudder is from friction material baking on to the disc surface. As you say you don't rest on the brakes after stopping, then the calipers must be jamming.
Either the caliper slides are corroded (disassemble and rebuild using copper grease), or the pistons are jamming. That's usually new calipers for that one.

Hi My partner was recently in a company car insurance scheme for a number of for the last 5 years has not had an accident , this year her company took away the company car insurance so we took it out ourself, i thought as she had not had an accident for the last 5 years this qualified as 5 years no claims , anyway about a week after being insure she had an accident with another car currently we are having problems getting proof that she was previously insured with her old company / previous insurer , they did pass a piece of paper we / her employer fill out then date stamp, the insurer now says this is not enough , and that they require official renewal notice form the previous insurer ? please can you advice / help asap ?

As suggested by Martint123 it may already be too late and if you claimed 5 years NCB when you did not have it you have committed a fraudulant act and if so you may well find yourself without cover now and struggling to find cover in the future.
You need to check what the question was on the original proposal and then consider your next move. Normally insurers are happy to consider a previous claim free record fro ex-company car drivers but they need to be told when you initially insure.
Sorry-I can't bring muself to use the term 'ecoboost': it's too nauseating.

F1 is set to be moving to small capacity (1.6 I think) 4 pot turbos - assumng Ferrari agree - they are the only manufacturer fighting the new engine regs. Given that's the way road cars are going, it makes sense.
Whenever i indicate left, the indicator arrow on the dashboard "ticks" twice as fast as usual. When this happens, the cabin air recirculate system switches on. This also occurs when i put the car in reverse, and yesterday the EPC light came on which im told is usually indicative of a brake light switch failure. Clearly theres something not right with the electrics- can anyone tell me what it might be? Read more

Road fatalities have turned into one of the biggest 'killers' in modern society. One of the biggest reasons for road mishaps is 'speed'. So, the simplest solution is to slow down speed. The speed associated limitations are imposed on drivers for safety concerns. So, it is their duty to pay attention to speed signs and even restrict the speed to ten k/h under what sign says.
1. The basic rule is to 'slow down' to take corner successfully. Weather condition is another area that you need to give special attention.
2. Alcohol is another major reason for road mishaps. It is human nature to believe that they know what they are doing, particularly when they are drinking.
3. A simple rule to keep in mind for driving safely is common civility. If one allows others to go ahead, one can save various probable troubles on the road from happening. Read more
Another bit of advice that is obvious really, but lots of drivers miss it.
That is - don't overtake when there's minor road junction on the other side of the road. What happens if a car turns left out of that junction? A head-on collision scenario. The same applies if there's a lay-by on the other side of the road with a vehicle in it....

Well well well, quite a few replies. Yup - I did use the first swear word, but having been messed around for the best part of an hour whilst they tried to extract first a signature and a credit card from me, I didn't feel I was going over the top.
I sent a full report of this charade to the place in question and received an apology, which quite frankly amazed me. I stand by this story and would happily sign an affidavit to that effect.
Having spent some time reading the woes of other people who have had a bad experience with this shower, I would urge everyone to avoid them like the plague and encourage anyone you know to do the same if they're in the market for a car.
As a contrast to this, whilst driving along the A4 near Reading, I passed a place called The Berkshire Fiesta Centre. Not having seen them before I stopped to have a look and saw a Mondeo estate which came close to what I was after. The salespeople couldn't have been more helpful. The chap said - "we're not here just to take your money for the car, we want to make sure it's what you're after, within your budget, and if we do the deal, make sure it gives you good service afterwards. In other words, we want to look after you". The car was really more than my budget so I didn't take it further, but with two or three sentences, that salesman did more to win me over than an entire decade spent visiting second hand car dealers. And it could not have been more diametrically opposed to the approach taken by the subject of this original thread. I have no link or involvement with The Berkshire Fiesta Centre, but their approach seemed spot on, and i would happily pay a bit extra if i thought they really were going to look after me.
I have no axe to grind with the majority of dealers trading, and there are some genuinely good people around, but the genuine shock of being treated in the way I was by this dealer really frightened me about the experience people can have in this industry. As a rugby prop forward of 6ft 2 and 18 stones, I felt intimidated, and i had done my homework. I wonder how many people have been strung up like a kipper by this shower.
And I never mentioned the hard sell about wanting me to watch a video about some paintwork protection coating they insisted i sit through (a bargain at about £400), the hard sell for the warranty not worth the paper it was written on - a very well documented case of someone who had the frighteners put on him for daring to sugest their warranty department might like to fix his expired gearbox. He sued and won the full cost of the work and parts.
I think this place works on the basis of being able to talk most people into a deal with their high-pressure tactics and getting people to sign early on before they really know what's happening, then bombarding them with fake legalise when they perhaps want to think again. The number of stories I've seen of people having massive difficulty getting their deposits back if they'd reserved a car then decided not to go through with it once they had seen it. Look on Scoot, look on google, look on reviewcentre, just beware that on that last place, there are clearly lots of very positive reviews which I understand have been posted there by employees or friends/relatives. The one thing is that as soon as anyone confronts them with the law, they tend to cave in very quickly and respond.
One guy placed a deposit and they then applied for finance. The finance was turned down, the guy was refused his money back "because it was his fault the finance was turned down" - unbelievable - don't just take my word for it - do some research, read, be amazed and above all, disgusted that this shower are allowed to continue to trade.

ok. got the solenoid buzz back last night by tapping the solenoid - if i then fire up the engine it fast idles correctly and lowers down to a low idle.
if i switch the engine off and go to start again no solenoid and the engine does it old trick of going the wrong way....
