This morning a member of the public jumped out in front of me brandishing a radar gun, calling me a c*#t and telling me he was reporting me to the police. He was not wearing a hi vis and it was barely light, he then took a photo of me and showed me a reading of 36 mph on the gun. Is this legal? And can I receive a ticket in this manner? Read more
What rights does a person have using a Blue badge in/on a private car park? Should they expect to be able to park in bays reserved for blue badge holders or can anyone use them? Read more
I don't have a blue badge, or a yellow wheelchair sign, and hopefully won't need one, but I have noticed some weird stuff.
Why so many? There's always loads of disabled parking empty, just at the door, when the rest of the car park is full....
My daughter was quoted £400 by Kwik-Fit for essential repairs, an MOT, new tyres and fuel addative. She obtained an alternative quote from another garage and has just paid the bill of £103. The car passed its MOT and new tyres were not needed. No comment. Read more
I don't know much about this paricular branch of Kwik-fit except my daughter was told that all sorts of work needed doing including tyres and shock absorbers (I think) to get through the MOT and none of it needed doing. However it seems as though some have good experiences.
Does anyone have any info about the IX45? It is due late this year I believe, although the IX35 launch is not a good omen when considering waiting to buy one - I might get it in 2014!!!
I have a 4 year old Santa, am due to change, and will undoubtedly have another Hyundai, but the question is to do it now or wait for the new model? If I keep ithe 'new' car also for 4 years will the residual be much different by that stage of its life? Read more
I think if you choose to buy the current model you should look to get a useful discount - 15 to 18%. I was surprised how much I got off list price last summer and this should go a long way towards offsetting the difference in the used value of an ix45 vs a SF in 4 years time as you won't get any meaningful discount on a new model. Personally, I don't really like the look of the ix45, too current, too trendy, too many creases, angles and panel shaping. I prefer the more traditional upright utilitarian stance of the SF and I guess it results in more room. If the ix45 turns out to be far superior mechanically in terms of engine performance, suspension, 4wd and gearboxes then that would make the decision more difficult but I don't think that level of change is on the cards.
The car (03 plate fiesta, 62k miles, bought for £1950) was bought just over 2 months ago from a local dealer.
Since then it has been to the garage twice due to the EAC fail message flashing resulting in the car losing power and needing to be re-started.... Read more
In my experience the dealers don't understand the electronics in these modern cars. They just plug it and read off a fault code, and replace any indicated parts, and fail to test their fixes adequately.
I know this because I had the same thing happen on my C-Max - a week out of warranty....
Seems to be an Internet Explorer issue. I find that if my post disappears, using the browser back button, 're-displays' the post (in a different font!), and if I press the 'post message' button again, the post usually appears. Read more
I sympathise, Concrete! I've used computers since the 1980s and I'm probably still a novice. I know what you mean - you just go into your internet provider and carry on. In many cases that's automatically Internet Explorer: it is with my previous provider (AOL) and my current BT Internet.
If you want to use one of the others, it's easy to get an icon on to the desktop and then you can go straight in.
My Merc gear change has been tempremental. 4 speed auto. The gear change sometimes defaults to 2nd and third gear only. When you pull over and restart the car everything works normally. Then 2 days later 2nd and third gear change only again?
Appreciate any assistance in this matter.... Read more
Hi all :)
Just looking for some honest advice on costs. My 2003 Clio DCi 1.5 has failed MOT on a Track Rod End and the Anti Roll Bar Link Rod AND emissions.... Read more
Is this a major or minor service? Seems to me some services are little more than an oil and filter change with a quick look round the car. anyway if you get a years motoring for that price then it isn't bad at all.

Live near the sea or with lots of salted roads?

When our local police do their community engagement stuff speeding is a top three public concern along with petty theft and ASB.
One response is community speedwatch. Local citizens are trained to use a speed gun and log the results. No legal powers but if same cars/excess speeds crop up again and again then owner will have a copper knocking on their door....
