Hi,
I have had my new VW Golf MK5 GT TDI (2007) for a couple of weeks. I have noticed a quiet but noticeable grinding / scraping / breathing (difficult to tell which) noise coming from behind the dash, presumably in the engine engine somewhere.... Read more
I recently received a recall for my 2006 Passat (2.0 Sel Tdi 170 5Dr DSG) . This was for Piezo Injectors.
As I felt by not taking my car in I may jeopardise my insurance I took it it to have the work done 2 weeks ago. When I took the car in everything was fine - barely a single problem after 88k miles - but when I picked it up 2 days later the car was having problems when changing gear at mid-revs in mid to lower gears - gearchanging was fine at higher speeds.... Hi, my ECU on my Y reg Zafira needs replacing. It is making my car have a slight misfire which will fail the mot on emissions. It has a dozen codes when read and everything else has been ruled out so it must be the ecu. MY question is, do the numbers on the ecu have to match exactly because I'm having trouble finding one that matches but there are others that match my engine but not the numbers on the ecu. Except for the slight misfire the car runs fine. Read more
The GM parts bin is a weird and wonderful place.
I had to replace the Central Locking / Immobiliser ECU on my '99 Zafira recently and like you, had a rotten time tracking down the correct one. Every one I found that purported to be a Zafira module had a different P/N....

Every time I have tried to buy a secondhand car (usually c.3-4 years old) my attempts to get a better deal have failed miserably. The advertized price is the price - no flexibility at all. This seems to be very different from buying new cars where there seems to be no fixed prices at all.
Has anybody got ideas or tactics to use in order to achieve a better deal from 2nd hand dealers? Read more
When I use to visit relatives in Southport, England, there was an independant (Kew of Stretton was the name) who had a small pitch at the end of a row of main dealerships.
I bought my current car from Kew Motors in Southport, but the chap was operating out of his house and had a lock -up for the cars (he said showrooms were too pricey to bother with). It was very fairly priced and I told him so. He had a bit of fixing to do on my p/x as well to make it saleable. Probably the same chap.
I've just put £50 petrol in my BMW x5 and though I'll try the Redex petrol.
After driving about 6 miles the petrol gauge started to drop and the computer millage started to drop like I had an petrol leak.
Can any help with the problem as its to much of a coincidence it's a fuel sencor failure? Or is it?
Many thanks ASAP if poss please.

I have just acquired a 1993 Caterham 7 with a 1700cc engine. Which oil spec should be used? Read more
10w/40 fully or semi synthetic is fine for x-flows. You have to remember that when they were first produced just about the only oil available was 20w/50 mineral and it was rubish compared to todays oils, even the supermarket brands dare I say. Viscosity does not tell you anything about the quality of the oil, you need to find the API ref on it, should be SJ, SL or SM, avoid anything lower.
