Hi, I experienced something very similar to the rear end wag mentioned in HJ's review, under extreme steering with my Colt 5 door diesel and wondered if anyone else has?
Doing a fast steering correction to abort a lane change (car on my shoulder, oops) I set the rear end wagging at about 60mph which was really unnerving. Dealer unaware of this, and only mention I can find online is HJ's review here:... Read more
I am about to fit a new, (genuine Jaguar), cannister oil filter to a 2003 X-type. Looking at the screw on end there is a line of glue between the metal "cup" that holds the sealing rubber and the metal top. The glue seems to join these two metal pieces and will be covered with hot oil while the engine is running. This is my first Jaguar and I have not noticed this feature on any other makes of filter for other cars. My concern is whether any of the glue will melt into the oil and block oilways or is this not possible. Advice from more experienced filter users would be much appreciated. Read more
Hi,

You'll get a decent spec 2 or 3 year old Seat Ibiza with the 1.4 85PS engine for that. Basically a Polo without the VW badge tax.
I've been looking for cars to do a 50 mile commute in, replacing my old Mondeo, and the Ibiza is the cheapest newish thing I can find that isn't a wee tin box with a hairdrier engine.
I recently took my car through an arc/imo carwash and got 'the works' which included a wax treatment
Its the same an any normal conveyor belt carwash but at the end when you usually expect the dryer, the car was coated with this pinkish liquid foam stuff - then passed through the dryer - which i'm assuming is the wax/gloss... Read more
Have the petrocan pass for my black MS. Completely useless right now....the back half of the car looks as if water hasn't even touched it. But winter is another story....hopefully it'll get the salt off at least.
Been using the touch less....the new ones with the moving conveyor belt and conveyor drive you park on. I hand wash once a week and use this the other days....only because I'm in a new build area with dirt all around. But in winter it'll be good to get rid of the salt at least
Petrol and diesel fuel prices are set to soar. But hope is on the horizon as the progress towards electric cars is accelerating. Most car manufacturers are hurrying to make sure that they are not left behind.
In the USA, IBM have announced that they have a lithium-air cell under development that will theoretically store 1000 times as much as the lithium-ion cell. That will give a range almost on par with petrol engines, but with an electric motor with only one moving part and capable of controlling torque and speed independently. There is a proviso, though, that IBM sort out the problem of the propensity of lithium to burst into flames if it comes into contact with water. Imagine ‘A foggy day in London town’, 97% humidity.... The other day my car was booked in to be mended, so I knew I'd go to work on my electrically-assisted bicycle the next day.
But a point to bear in mind about potential plug-in car ownership was brought home to me VERY firmly that following morning: Distracted by other events in the household, I'd forgotten to put the bike on charge the previous night !...

One front sidelight bulb has failed, a simple task one would think to change. However, it would seem I have to remove all the front grill and lower front panel. Not a swift job, does anyone have an idea of how it is done before it all gets complicated.

Depends on the engine, the small 1.0 and 1.2 engines have good compatibility, apart from the cylinder head and associated components.
Hi,
I have had my new VW Golf MK5 GT TDI (2007) for a couple of weeks. The engine starts reliably, but when cold takes a couple of goes some times. It strikes me that this should not be the case with a car that has only 45k on the clock and is of this age.... Read more
Hi did you ever sort this issue out with the slow starting? I've just bought a similar 2005 MK5 GT TDI and it's doing the same thing.

I would suggest that Jaguar and every other manufacturer would not supply parts that would create major problems fopr users. The glue will be up to the job, no need to panic.
Remember that Jaguar do not meke oil filters. The company that make them will use the same glue in filters they make for other manufacturers as well.
