Flashing DPF light on dashboard 13/02/12. Mazda dealer diagnostic revealed no fault on DPF, light caused by their failure to reset car computer after service in July 2011. Will this have had any adverse effect on the DPF/engine to date or cause any premature failings in the future? Read more
I wonder why the dealer did not reset the computer on your recent diagnostic visit given it was part of the service and something that was "missed" at the time. You should have put your two questions above to the dealer after the diagnosis and it is not too late to do so now. The response would also set a marker for any future action that may be required by the dealer for not resetting the computer.

The fuel pump has just gone and a quick search of google would suggest this may have been subject to a recall... Read more
A4 diesels of this era were recalled for the tandem fuel pump bolts issue, but I dont think this applied to petrols.
A new small Fiat always gets lots of press, but the bit I look forward to most is the colour names, something Fiat excel at. The new Panda doesnt disappoint.

When I was working on the development of software to be used in the car delivery process we had to devise a means of matching the manufacturers' names for the colours to meaningful names like Red, Blue, etc. Otherwise people working in a yard full of thousands of cars would never have found the "gazpacho" or "panacotta" one they were looking for.
Women Drivers are very sensitive while they are driving. Here I am sharing some important tips for women who drive at night. Specially women have to consider that never drive alone. If you must drive alone at night, take special care to keep yourself safe.
* When driving, keep your doors locked and keep the windows either closed or mostly closed so a potential attacker could not reach in and get to you or to the door's unlock button.
* When you leave the car, set the alarm if you have a security system or use an anti-theft device.
* When choosing a parking space, look for a well-lit area near the building's entrance. Don't park next to large vehicles, windowless vans, vehicles with tinted windows, or trucks with caps. Never leave your car unlocked, thieves rob unlocked vehicles and can easily steal them.
Driving at night can be a risky activity, but with some planning and careful vigilance, you can increase your chances of avoiding being the victim of a crime. Read more

I agree with Tonto: I suggest you try other BMW dealers until you can get a test drive in the model you want. Trying a petrol automatic has given you only half the picture if you're after a diesel manual.
Hello Hope someone could advise how to go about repairing some damage caused to my Golf. Someone sadly was very careless and instead of making sure there was enough space to move, decided to instead scrape my front offside corner scraping part of the bumper.
Thankfully most of the damage was caused to the front bumper mould and some light grazing to the main bumper which i think I can get away with with some polishing. How to go about doing the mould? I couldnt find any coloured moulds on eBay, but found a new primed one. I know my colour is LA7T, United Grey, and I have found a spray and lacquer. Do I need to sand the new mould first, then apply the paint then apply the lacquer? What is the best way to go about it? Could anyone kindly advise? Thanks in advance. Read more
Don't use VW plenty of small firms around.
Quite a few comments and queries around re small engines in big cars.
So, what do we think to this? I'm looking around at, amongst other things, nearly new Mondeos. A well known car supermarket has some 61-reg Zetec trim - 2.0 163BHP diesel and 1.6 115 BHP diesel. And the price? The same as each other, apart from the £115 v £30 VED.... Read more
I had a 1.9 tdi 115 Audi from new (2000X) and never found it lacking in power, and it had great economy (50-55mpg).
Trust me the 1.9 PD engine even in 115BHP guise has far more grunt than the For 1.6 CR diesel. You are comparing the "pretty good" with a pencil sharpener !

Me too. To the extent that on a test drive prior to servicing, the mechanic also diagnosed a failing wheel bearing. I was rather relieved when I got a phone call saying it was merely tyre noise.
Again, disappeared come next tyre swap. Also, the tyres making the racket were quiet when new and only became really noisy as they reached the end of their lives.
