New Fiat Panda - Fiat come through again - Sulphur Man

A new small Fiat always gets lots of press, but the bit I look forward to most is the colour names, something Fiat excel at. The new Panda doesnt disappoint.

Take your pick from:

Infatuation Purple (for Prince fans)

Sweet Candy Beige (beige candy, not sure I'd eat that)

Sweet Dreams Turquoise (trippy)

Active Grey (can the colour grey be 'active'?)

Cozy Brown (my personal favourite, reminds me of lazy afternoons at the local snooker hall)

Darkwave Black (a bit ominous!)

Cozy Brown sounds like the name of a bluesy trombone player. You don't see many brown cars nowadays.

Darkwave Black sounds like a Transformer.

My 08 plate Lancer is "thunder blue"

right then hands up all the old sods who remember the tv program "blue thunder"

cough cough.....yeh i do................

theres a metalic brown civic down the road from me....may-be its meant to be "copper".

Remember only a few years ago Audi had a light green colour in there option chart rather than 6 shades of silver.....it looked like mushy peas.......bet that wasn't the offical name though....grin.....

I like the light blue they do on the 500 rather like the old Ford "Olympic blue" of 40 years ago, shame its not available on more cars

Blue Thunder?! I had to look that up. It was on telly the year I was born.

I think my car is 'Lapis Blue'. Mazda are a bit less inventive with their colour names.

Cha Cha Azure I think you'll find. My favourite colour for a 500 (old or new) but not in the current list. They should offer that purple shade on the 500 too.

"Darkwave Black" ???

Surely black is just black, the only choice being metallic or non-metallic. Are there really different shades of black?

I have in my desk a genuine FIAT colour chart from 1968. Mostly the colours have sensible names such as RED, BLUE, LIGHT BLUE,, WHITE, MEDIUM GREY

Maybe things were simpler in the old days.

Back along Dad had a Wolseley Six (land crab) that was officially called 'Bracken' but Dad always referred to as diahorrea!

Seriously though I've seen a few of these new Pandas on show at airports around Europe and they look seriously good.

I'm going to the launch event at our local Fiat dealer this Saturday. I'll report back afterwards.

It's the big (small) citycar face-off. Fiat Panda or VW Up! ? For me it's Panda - all day long.

Im sure this Panda is a good car, and like the 2nd generation panda, will have unqiue and quirky features to make it appeal compared to its rivals.

however, there is something about the FIat badge and the reputaton and history of Fiats that puts me off ever contemplating a Fiat again.

From owning a punto to hearing friends horrow stores with Stilos, Bravos and Uylsses.

2 years ago, we required and ended up purchasing 3x citroen berlingo multispaces.

The options where the renault kangoo (rubbish), the peugeout partner tepee (same as the citroen but more expensive for some reason) or the fiat doblo.

What swung us towards the citroen was the fiat reputation (and yes, citroens isn ot exactly honda-like) but also the fear factor of the fiat dealerships who on the whole are clueless and unhelpful.

I can never see myself buyng a fiat again, there is just something about them which shouts 'brreakdown'.

I also have one question, slightly off topic.

With vauxhall set to replace the current combo (based on the corsa) with a re-baged fiat doblo, will they do extensive changes or will they stick with the fiat electronics and engines?

Any news on Vauxhall making an MPV version of the combo/doblo or will the mainstream continue to turn their nose up to van mpv's in the UK?

"Any news on Vauxhall making an MPV version of the combo/doblo or will the mainstream continue to turn their nose up to van mpv's in the UK?"

Opel offer the passenger version of the Combo on the continent. However the list price of the Vauxhall Combo van is about £1300 more than the passenger version of the Doblo.

As GM are trying to make Opel/Vauxhall more of a premium brand, not sure whether a passenger version of the Combo fits too easily.

An ex-colleague told me that when he was working for IBM, a senior salesman took delivery of a brand spanking new Vauxhall Victor on fleet. They went out into the car park to look at it.

"Just one question. What colour do they call that?"

"Autumnal Bronze."

"Hmm. I'd have said that's more of a 'Cat's diarrhoea green' myself......"

More recently, one of my colleagues had a fleet Audi A4 in Audi's 'Autumn russet' pearlescent finish. It was some time before he would admit that, when the sun caught it, it was very obviously pink. Looked like a sort of rusty red most of the time, but in the right light you started looking for matching lace trim on the upholstry.....

On holiday in Cape Town at the moment. There are quite a few Chevrolet / Daewoo Matizes to be seen in what I can best describe as Channel Passenger Green. Yuk.

I like that dual coloured chromatic iridescent paint MG put on their TFs. Moonshine? Silky? Something like that.

My Ford is in a colour called Acid Rush. What is that you say? I suspect it was named after a dodgy pill the marketing guys took at their last love in. It is actually a metallic gold. At least it is a safety colour. It stands out like a dogs tail. Before you ask - the reason I bought it was it was cheap and in good condition.

When I was working on the development of software to be used in the car delivery process we had to devise a means of matching the manufacturers' names for the colours to meaningful names like Red, Blue, etc. Otherwise people working in a yard full of thousands of cars would never have found the "gazpacho" or "panacotta" one they were looking for.
