Hi,
my car has started juddering at higher revs. It's mostly fine other than this, perhaps a little underpowered and the engine sounds like it's working a little harder than it ought to....
Car has about 60k and runs fine, but when accelerating past 2800 revs and dropping below 2400 revs, the charging light/beeper briefly activates. I put a voltmeter on and the voltage does indeed drop during these times, so it's not a faulty alarm!
Any ideas where to look - not obvious as it's intermittent.... Read more
May be an idea to check the drive pulley/belt system.I would think this engine is fitted with a rubberised crank pulley and possibly an over-run clutch alternator pulley, both of which can slip and lose drive.hth
My son has recently bought a 6 series coupe that stinks of cigarette smoke - Is there any way to remove the smell without damaging the roof headlining, which I suspect would be the most contaminated area ??
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated - Thank you. Read more
I once bought a Cortina with a superb history but the driver had smoked a packet a day in the car for three years. I replaced the carpet, had the seats retrimmed and washed the headlining and all other interior parts every day for a week, but still after three years, if I had left the car sanding for a few hours there was a whiff of stale tobacco when you got in.
The moral, never buy a car which has been driven by a heavy smoker.
Hi - a strange occurrance two days a go! Leaving from work in the evening, I noticed the rear (driver side) tyre was deflated. Didn't remember being so when I arrived at work in the morning. Anyway, thinking it punctured, I put on the spare, and drove to the nearest garage. The guys there performed multiple pressure tests, water test etc. No puncture found! They replaced it back onto the car - and its been fine ever since. Where I work and park (secure area) its extremely unlikely someone let it down. So, what else could have caused this ? Read more
I have seen this on my car recently. It turned out to be a loose valve core in one of the tyre valves, simply tightenend with the little tool and problem never re-appeared. From now on I always check all of my valves for tightness. You can get the tools in any car accesory shop for pennies or ask nicely in the tyre services and they may give you one.
I have an unused amount ( 2 litres) of Halford Fully Synthetic Engine oil ( vw 505.01) sitting on the shelf, my question is can I mix it with QAUNTUM Fully Synthetic (same grade (vw 505.01) ?..........for my next oil change.... It seems a shame to throw it away Read more
Providing the oils are the correct spec for the engine mix away.
Garages buy their oil in bulk for the best price, the brand is unimportant its the spec that matters. What happens when you have an oil change, you always leave a small amount behind in the oil galleries and sump and this has to mix with whatever the engine is filled with.
GM unveiled a record profit $7.6 billion for 2011 (£4.85 billion). However they also unveiled a $700 million loss in Europe, and $100 million loss in South America. They have lost money on their European (Opel/Vauxhall) operation for over a decade - vehicles costing too much to build and profit margins low.

But over the years the quality failed to improve and Ford suddenly understood about drivability and then quality.
Im a big Ford fan but i'll admit their late 80s/early 90's cars were pretty shocking. Only the Granada seemed to have any money actually invested in it at Ford. Bean counters ran the company and they made bad cars which looked good, backed up by good marketing. I think it was the Mk V Escort which broke the camels back, a truly shocking car which was re-designed within a couple of years. It was about this time when engineers started to get their way over the bean counters, resulting in the class leading Mondeo. Now they make cars which are well built, sell well and drive well....
Hi All

You should be able to fit the automatic engine into your manual version. Obviously you will need to change over the flywheel/ clutch etc. You may need to check the fuel intake system - i remember some cars have cables for kickdown.

I never got better than 44mpg out of both my Vauxhall diesels - 2.0DTI and 1.9CDTI Astras, manual boxes, mixed driving.
GM haven't a clue how to do frugal diesels, they need to see what Peugoet and Renault do to get cars running on the smell of diesel.

Yes I was thinking this as well. The wheel has 5 bolt fixing....
