Recently my heater blower has been failing. I get nothing from positions 1 & 2. I did think it was working correctly on 3 & 4 but the power seems to be getting less on those positions now. Can someone direct me towards what might be the cause of this. Initially I thought it must be the switch but I have done a little research and I see there is a resistor somewhere and it could be the motor itself. I am usually capable of replacing a part but my electrical knowledge is very limited so any help would be greatly appreciated. Read more

Just put "ford focus heater fan resistor" into ebay search and it comes up with hundreds of suppliers a very common fault it seems.

Had a call yesterday from the dealer that sold me my Juke last year. 'Apparently' Nissan don't have enough second hand Jukes to sell, so they are offering select customers a New 12 Plate like-for-like model for £150. Same monthly payment, same bubble.

I couldn't see the catch, so ordered mine (in a different colour) over the phone. Sure there must be a catch, but I can't see it yet (ho ho ho...'it's a Juke'). They were even prepared to ignore the fact that I've done 13.5K miles in the past 11 months, when my PCP deal was for 10K/annum. Read more

Hi everyone, a friend of mine is looking for a smaller size car for around £1500, as her 2002 Laguna has just blown another turbo.

What can any of you suggest that would be reasonably well-built and cheap to run (It would be quite handy if the car had five doors, as well)... Read more

Any MK2 Megane for £1500 will be dodgy. Better to get a late MK1.

Car just serviced by main dealer. They found oil in the coolant header tank but do not think that the head gasket has blown because the oil is not EMULSIFIED.

Any ideas?. Read more

If it has an oil-water oil cooler could be thats leaking otherwise the most likely problem is the head gasket.

Got the P0340 error which is the cam position sensor, changed out the sensor for a new one but the fault occurs again. If I reset the light when the engine is warm then it will stay off until the engine cools, when the engine light comes back on.

I'm thinking this is likely to be a dodgy connection as it's intermittent (it it was the ECU wouldn't the fault be permanent) but I can't trace the wire back to the ECU. Does anyone have an idea which connection on the ECU is this sensor. There are a couple of blue wires that I can get at, one gives a regular intermittent continuity to the connector but I can't see this is the correct one, why would it be intermittent?... Read more

Got this sorted now, thought I'd post the possible cause as I think it's a little unusual and might help someone.

The car failed to start a few days ago, all the dash lights were on but the engine wouldn't turn over. Checked the cable from the ignition to the starter and this was ok at 12.5v. Then checked across the solenoid terminals and found a voltage of 6v. So it looks like the solenoid was faulty. Changed out the starter for a new one and the error has cleared from the cam sensor and (touch wood) stayed off, I'm thinking it could have been the voltage leaking through the solenoid that was interfering with the sensor?...

Hi there folks, so we're setting up a diagnostic garage with my brother and we're left with dilemma to get the proper equipment for automotive testing. We are mainly interested in diesel common rail testers. Where to find the best value for money devices? Would you guys settle with well known Bosch ? Or should we do some web-searching for other retailers like the www.auto-testers.com What puts us off when it comes to this kind of manufacturers is lack of any opinions, so we hesitate, even though the prices seem to be lower. Has anyone ever bought this kind of equipment? What brands would you recommend ? Should we look for retailers from outside of UK or it's rather risky? Thank you in advance. Read more

My first set of rear Potenza tyres did 32000 miles, the second 29000 and the third set has just been replaced at 11,000 miles and after 6 months. Same driver / owner / use. Has anybody else had this appalling experience? If it happens again it will certainly be farewell to Bridgestone and probalby to BMW. Read more

Could be that your head gasket is already leaking or that the thermostat is not fully opening.
