This morning I opened my 2008 Micra (remote central locking, no alternative/manual override for boot) as normal and drove for 25 minutes. Got out and the boot wouldn't open. Totally stuck shut. Door central locking is fine. I managed to get my stuff out of the boot by forcing up the shelf from the inside. My friend looked at it and the lock doesn't appear to even be attempting to open. We studied the owner's manual but none of the fuses could obviously be matched to the boot. Has anyone any advice? Is it an electrics fault or is the boot catch jammed? I don't use the boot that often so it's not a critical issue but I am slightly concerned it is going to suddenly release itself when I'm driving along the motorway! Any help gratefully received! Had a similar issue. What was happening was that when I blipped the keypad to lock the car, the window wound itself down. Not dropped - the window motor actually wound the window down! And then would not budge. When I got back in the car and started to drive, the window would, inch by inch, wind back up. Then when I got to my destination and locked the car, then semi-closed window would wind back down. Took 4 visits to Renault to fid the problem. Last visit was a solid 2.5 days work. 1 day to strip the car (the windows link to boxes all over - under the floor, in the dash, in the engine bay), half day to trace the fault, 1 day to put it all back together. It is a very common issue and something a lottery as to where the faulty connection is, and thus how long to trace. So good luck.

I am on my third set of Run Flat Tyres on a 2008 3 series touring. Michelin Primacy 205/55 R16 tyres have been fitted each time. Last time the front tyres were wearing down, I had a major repetivie road noise problem that sounded like bearing noise, but was traced to uneven wear on the tyres. Basically the tyres were lumpy at one point on the perimeter. Thinking that this was a faulty set of tyres, they were replaced with the same type. Having now done a further 20,000 miles the noise is reoccurring, with between 4 and 5mm of rubber remaining. Is this a common problem with Michelin's or is it a combination of Michelin primacy on BMW 3 series. I have been advised to fit Continental run flats next time, but are they a good alternative or should I consider an alternative manufacturer? Would it be appropriate to fit different manufacturers tyres on the front and back, or should I always keep to the same type for all 4 tyres? Read more

Oddly shaped tyres is almost always a sign of something amiss with suspension.

Hi there. The heater blower suddenly packed up on my pug. Its the digital display version with the aircon readout etc. Checked all the fuses and connections. I cannot find a relay. Can anyone tell me where to find it. I can hear click when I press the front screen switch which usually activates the blowers onto the screen. The click sound like its near the ignition switch but cannot find a relay. i think the click means the relay is operating.

Opened the paaaseger side footwell to look at the wiring, still no relay. Any help welcomed as driving with the window open till I can sort it. This car plagued by elec faults!!! Read more

Oddly enough, I have a similar situation, which is in another thread, though my car is a 406 2002 HDI but sounds very similar.

Dear Honest John

I would like to enquire about the bearing number for the rear wheel bearing on the Renault Megane 1.4, 1999 model. I can get the Renault part number, it is 77 012 5812, but I would like to buy the bearing from a bearing outlet, because we are not near a Renault agent. (Africa ... :-)... Read more
