There are no motoways in East Anglia because no one has any reason to go there!
So thats how you define regional importance? Whether or not it has a motorway? And you think Norfolk is old fashioned and dumb?
The M11 runs into (or out of, depending your point of view) the East. The region badly needs motorway expansion to be honest as its home to the UK's busiest container port (Europe's 6th largest) and the road network is struggling to cope with the sheer number of HGV's now.
There's plenty of reasons to be in the East by the way. 9% of the countries population live here, much lower crime rate than London/midlands/north of england, cheaper insurance premiums, stronger economy, unemployment rate far below national average, home to one of the Worlds most famous Universities and far better weather than well-worn northerners can expect.
It has its downsides obviously, all of those above reasons mean you'll struggle to buy a shack for £100,000.
