Don’t worry, no contact or broken bones.
On approaching a mini R/B on a narrow road this morning a cyclist (man in early 60’s, no helmet) started to undertake me but due to relative speeds on approach ended up riding alongside me. The road was narrow and there wasn’t really enough space for him to do so, consequently he was really close to the side of the car. On entering the R/B we were side by side with him still really close. Obviously I was watching him carefully because I could easily have knocked him off his bike. What made things worse is that he went across the mini R/B in a straight line forcing me to do the same and having to take the hump – literally! On exit, looking at the rear view mirror he was gesticulating!
Had overtook said cyclist two or three hundred yards back from the R/B. At the time he was riding quite sensibly and I overtook without problem or going close or anything I can think off that would have annoyed him.... Read more
Hi, I just have a question regarding UK law, I already looked on directgov, and couldn't find it. In my country we drive on the right, and if you find yourself in an unmarked intersection, i.e. there are no signs to say anything, you give way if there is someone coming from your right. If there is someone coming from your left, he gives way to you, because you are on his right. But how does it work here? What do you do if you come into an intersection without signs if you drive on the left? Who gives way?

@Marlot: Does it at least have a stop/give way sign?
No!...
Just checking...the 1.9 105 PS TDI in the mk 2 SEAT Leon has Bosch Solenoid injectors, right? It does according to the VAG Diesel Engine wikipedia entry. Engine codes being either BKC, BLS or BXE.
This will strongly influence my choice of new (used) car. Read more
Many thanks for that link, Oldtoffee. That thread has some definitive information from 659 FBE, who knows his stuff and can be relied on.
Really interesting read - thanks for this. Hobbs Parker provided a great service when my house was surveyed. Read more
I was overtaken on the M74 on Sunday by a Volvo saloon (not entirely sure which model), travelling around 75/80mph. What caught my eye was that he had a skinny space-saver wheel on the nearside rear. I thought these had a recommended safe max speed of 56mph. I half expected to find it on its roof somewhere further up the road or did the driver know something I don't regarding the safety of these things at m/way speeds. Read more
"The spare wheel well is just half full ,not completely full .But who uses the space in that area ,I very rarely do ."
My last two cars have had half empty spare wells and false boot floors....
Hi all, I've got a couple of annoying little faults on my pug, which could be related but i'm not sure. First fault is with the indicators; they turn on but the bulbs don't flash, they just stay illuminated until i turn them off. However they do flash when i unlock the car!
The second fault is with the windscreen wipers. They turn on and off as told, but don't return to the start position automatically, they just stutter across the windscreen as if they are trying to find their home.... Read more
hi there
I was driving down the motoway and the engine cut out for a sec, thought no more of it, then 5 miles up the road the engine died on me, i thought it could be a fuel block problem so i bought a fuel filter and fitted it, still the same engine wont start, but now its saying on the dash oil press STOP.
Ive changed the oil and filter... Read more
The engine turns over, its Diesel and the year is 1999, the oil was ok to , ive since changed to oil tho and the filter , i draind out 8 pints of old oil and now got flushing oil in it,because it did need an oil change, and also know now that the timing belt is ok it turns when i turn the engine over.

I'm hoping you can suggest a car buyer to me in the South East (London). I have been away for a while and Joe at AuctionCarBuyer who I have been dealing with for the last 10 years has retired.... Read more
Thanks Honestjohn !!!
I'll give Matt a call when he is less busy.
Replacing the Bosch fuel filter on my diesel there are two push on fuel hoses. The connectors have two tabs either side which you have to pinch in to release the hose.
Can someone explain how these connectors grip the pipe, I just don't understand how they work, what is preventing them sliding off? Just curious. Read more
They're called "John Guest" connectors-they don't clip over anything-they will fit on any metal or plastic pipe of the correct diameter. Can also be used for water and CH systems.Details of how they work are on the "John Guest" website.
I had a look on that website but cannot see any explanation of how they work. Also could they be Bosch connectors using a John Guest principle I'm wondering?
My son's 2010 Triumph will be sitting around this summer while he's away [working - natch]. Ought we to disconnect and store the battery and maybe raise it off the tyres, or must I simply use it up and down the road every week to keep it alive? Read more
other replies all good advice-A longish run getting up to normal op temperature once a month should be enough-short runs will cause condensation in the crankcase and the exhaust-not good
Battery should be ok- give it 300mA for a few hours each month to be sure...

I agree with your first sentence (unless it is a raised bump).
The painted mini roundabout is merely there to let you know you must give way to the right.
