Having brought my car over to Spain 5 years ago I now need to come back to the U.K. and bring the vehicle with me in a coup[le of months time. It currently has Spanish registration, insurance, tax and test certificate and the earliest document expires in 7 months time. Enquiries at the DVLA and a local Veh.tax office leave me confused about how to convert the car back properly and legally. I can't get British insurance without a Brit registration but I can't get that without taxing and testing it .. and I can't tax it without insuring it!! Has anybody done this? Which do you do first? How long does it all take and do I need to do it as soon as I land back in the U.K. Also the DVLA say that the car will get back the last number that was assigned to it (a personalised plate) but a local tax office official says that it will be assigned it's first registered number (a '51 plate). Which is correct? Read more
Any info on the Fiesta facelift?
Will ford be showing the update at Geneva....... Read more
I like it. Presumably part of Ford's plan to sell the same cars worldwide. Maybe its been altered to meet the daft American regulations as the Fiesta had to be butchered to get rubber stamped there.
I'd be grateful for some advice on what to look out for when looking at service histories and invoices, as I'm going to be buying a car in the next few weeks.
I'd like to spend about £3500 on either a Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa (they seem to be plentiful and relatively affordable), so I think I'd be looking at a 2005-2007 model. The smaller the (petrol) engine the better, so I am probably looking at a Fiesta 1.25, or a Corsa 1.0 or 1.2, though I am aware of a snapped camshaft issue on Corsa 1.2 engines. I won't do enough miles to justify a diesel engine.... Read more
In defence of the 1.0 litre Corsa engine, I would mention that it is identical to the 1.2, apart from a different stroke and bore, and one less cylinder. So lighter.
Neither is noteworthy for performance, reliability, or economy....
What's the recommended minimum tread for all season tyres? I know 3mm is prob the min but if you are driving in snow, is 5mm going to be enough?
I saw some 2nd hand ones that I could get and sell on again but each time you change tyres it's at least £10 per corner, which seems a bit much.... Read more
Surely, they don't know if a new tyre is faulty or not?
They're just the fitters, the ultimate claim lies with the manufacturer doesn;t it?...
I bought my daughter a 52 reg 1.4 fiesta and its got the dreaded EAC fail, Ive tried chnaging throttle body and fuel loom but it still keeps returning. It shows an error code of P2100 H bridge error which I beleive is a fault between throttle body sensor and PCM. Has anybody else had this error code and how did you resolve it? Read more

This mornings headlines ,
Net migration stays at 250,000 .
Apparently the population of a small town arrives in the uk every year .
Madness ,we have a struggling economy with ever rising unemployment .
We have a desperate shortage of housing apparently. The city where I live intend to authorise 5500 more houses to be built ,many on previously dedicated green belt land .
Apparently there are no plans to improve the the roads or build new schools to accommodate the new houses and families ,all this in a city that is the fourth most congested in the uk,where traffic moves more slowly than it does
in London .
The bizarre thing about building more houses here ,is that it's near impossible to sell a house, at least for a sensible price .ive just sold a house we bought 7 years ago for £30,000 less than we paid for it .the house was a three bedroomed detached bungalow in a pretty village ,no work required , yours for £135,000 !!
The reason we sold it was because the local authority charged £2000 a year in rates on it ,no concessions now for empty properties .
This mornings rant over ,or is it just me .

There is almost nothing we can do. The majority are from the EU and they have the freedom to settle in this country, and work. Prevent them coming here and we will be punished by EU gnomes for our own good. Or we withdraw from the EU such that we have a trading relationship with them. I thought that is what it was supposed to be anyway, once upon a time.
And as far as I can tell not one single politician has linked the huge net immigration and the shortage of housing. I assume they are frightened of the racist label.
Regarding the feckless living off the dole, unfortunately areas with high unemployment have people who are not willing to move to areas where there is work, because they do not want to leave their friends and family. It is the same argument given by some housing benefit claimants who live in expensive areas.

Hi thanks for the reply the son-in-law who is a experienced volvo tech and myself are going to have a good look at it on tuesday he says that its an unusual fault on a diesal i had a test drive last night as before ticks over fine, banging the pedal down in neutral it revs right up no probs, drive away in first and second fine if you put it in third around 27 mph it misses untill you hit 30-31mph change to forth at 30 -31 it misses like hell untill you hit around 34-35 change into fifth around 40 misses untill you hit 47-50 then drives ok it as if theres a small band of revs that cause the problem we are going to follow you advice and put in some plastic pipeing to check for air, no it does not have a priming bulb
thanks again for your input will let you know the outcome of tuesdays effort ...

You need a diagnostic code read. This could be a crank or cam sensor failure. Regards Peter

im pretty happy with my car - yes.
That's the most important thing!...

All insurance companies I have dealt with both in the UK and Germany have had no problem insuring the car on the VIN till the correct plate was issued.
