This car has a 5 speed box (Ford MTX75 I believe). Does anyone know if the gearbox drain plug has a washer? The dealers can't tell me and it would be nice to know before I start.Thank you. Read more
Hello
Any help appreciated
I have a 2005 Mondeo TDCI 130 with 99k on the clock, bought in Dec 2011 wit 97k.
All was good until yesterday, slowed for a traffic light, clutch in, stopped, sounded and felt like something "engaged" and a knocking started, I could hear over the radio and feel through my left foot. Put in neutral, clutch out and noise stopped. Clutch back in noise started again. This is now always the case but only when the car is stationary, not when coasting with clutch in.
No noise while driving (except the usual Ford Diesel sound) and everything else seems OK.
Any idea what this could be.
Praying it's not injectors or DMF as I simply can't afford it.
Thanks Read more
Apologies if this is old news or has been discussed on here before:

Hi there all mechanics, I have a clio 1.2 16v Petrol 2003 model that wont start, the problem is sometimes it starts and other times it wont. It has a good spark and plenty of fuel pressure going into the rail but wont start most days. I have a spare fuel rail with injectors in it and have tried using it as a slave which I have connected to the fuel line and then taken off multiplug to No 4 and connected it to the slave and when I crank it over nothing comes from the injector. If I spray easystart into the filter housing it will start momentarily which tells me it must be fuel. I have done a diag and it says P0225 which is the throttle pedal, I have replaced the pedal from the one in my wifes car which is the same model and her car drives fine but still the same, renault say it may be the crank position sensor as there has been an upgrade to a blue plug with about 4 inches of loom along with new Crank sensor. I would have thought that if that was the problem I would not get a spark. I have also replaced MAP sensor and injectors, anybody out there with tips or advice would be most appreciated. any emails with tips to icantforgetthis1@aol.com (genuine email address I assure you) Really desperate for this Thanks all!! I have had a persistent problem with the battery on my C-Max going flat after about 1 week when not usyed. The car has been to the ford dealer a few times but they have not been able to find anything wrong. We have had a new battery fitted but this made no difference. I have checked the drain on the battery and found it to not go below about 300mA, removing fuses one at a time it looks like removing the fuse for the electronic parking brake reduces the current to a reasonable level.
Does the parking brake always cause this much current or should it turn off after the brake has been applied?... Read more
Left the car for about 1 hour as the current dropped until it stabalised at about 300mA after about 20 minutes.
How can I find out what other circuits may be effected by removing the EPB fuse?...
Hi Guys,
Test drove an 08 plate petrol golf wih 25k on the clock...... Read more
It's just the basic 1.4. That car is in a quite reputable local garage so wouldn't imagine it's been clocked and it has an easily fixed problem. Spoken to a mechanic who doesn't seem fazed with it having an injector replaced. But I'm thinking I may be walking away as I don't want to get stung with finance on a dodgy car. Having said that I don't want to walk away from a car that I really like. Just wondered how likely it was to encounter problems after having this initial one sorter! It's a VW - it will encounter problems sooner rather than later
just bought a new renault and found the reverse light is on the left underside and when lit gives a glow on the left and nothing on the right. how did this pass for uk roads and by what department.renault says thats the way it is so hard luck.
i would be interested to know if the french reverse light is on the same side as the english version?... Read more

Had cause to buy 2 x rear brake discs (non vented ) for a Bora and got them via Ebay. I bought a known make (Brembo) and they cost me £25 for the pair delivered free.
Working the sums out for these discs - the supplier got paid £25 from which he takes away 20% vat (£5.00) then he has to take away postage cost (say £5.00) then he takes away a minimal profit (say £3.00 each = £6.00) which means he's paid about £4.50 each for the discs.... Read more
I agree with spending money on good pads, all the cables, the fluid, and other things, but the disk? As long as it's metal, it'll do! when it wears out, just get another.
VW are set to make an mpv version of the Up....................the 7Up! A free crate of drink with every model.

I'm replacing the nearside front wheel bearing (it's becoming progressively noisier). Rather than asking a local garage to press out and press in a new bearing I'm think of using a Sealy VS7021 tool. It's quite expensive to buy but if one bearing has gone, my experience is the other may follow. Do you either have any experience of using this product or another tool to do the same job? Thanks. With the advice from this Forum and others plus the weather, I chicken out and had the job done by the local VW dealership for £166 incl VAT + the bearing cost. The cause of the problem was water ingress into the bearing leading to corrosion.
Thanks for the help.
