Excessive quote - Judesman

My daughter was quoted £400 by Kwik-Fit for essential repairs, an MOT, new tyres and fuel addative. She obtained an alternative quote from another garage and has just paid the bill of £103. The car passed its MOT and new tyres were not needed. No comment.

Sounds like Kwik Fit are the ones trying to rip you off, not VW. The title is somewhat misleading.

Kwik fit trying to rip someone off? Who would've thought....

Hot off the presses this one.

I remember going to one of those places once.

About time we publicised it more.

Sorry, I don't post on here very often and I didn't realise that the title would come out like that. I am not much of a mechanic but I could see that some of the work being recommended by Kwik-Fit wasn't necessary. I agree that this should receive publicity.

I always use a local smallish indy for tyres. Renewal time came up in December and, just out of interest, I shopped around, starting with KwikFit who were advertising 25% off. Even with the "offer" KW were £140 dearer than my reliable indy for the same make 4 tyres, fitted, balanced etc. Why do so many people fall for their hype?

I've found the exact opposite recently, I've used them twice for tyres and a complete exhaust system and they were quick , polite and cheaper than I expected. Maybe that's just my local branch?

I didn't bother with branch, just rang the central freephone number they advertised.

Depends on the branch. The local one is staffed by a pack of knuckle-draggers, but the one in the next town 10 miles away is exceptional. They spent a day trying to fix the aircon on my Mondeo, and as I'd gone in for their £49 regass, and they couldn't get the temp down by 10% (or whatever it was), I didn't have to pay for it. So got a free regas in the end up.

Later I discovered the aircon was broken due to a short in the heated washer jets (got to love Ford's wiring). So, for the price of a fuse, and loss of shorted washer jets, I now have ice cold aircon on a 7 year old car. Billy bonus.

I've experienced both - a branch in a town further north than I currently live was particularly rude and unfortunately conformed to the sexist stereotype (spoke to my husband and not me...even though it was my car). They overcharged me on a service and weren't very nice when I pointed out that I'd booked on the web so the price had to stand.

There are two branches where I live now and the guys there are really good. I got a very good deal on my MOT and service and the same again for my winter tyres. They also speak to me like I'm a person instead of some 'stupid little woman'.

They're not franchised are they? Is it ATS that's the franchised one? They're really good here as well; used them for a tyre repair for both cars.

I don't know much about this paricular branch of Kwik-fit except my daughter was told that all sorts of work needed doing including tyres and shock absorbers (I think) to get through the MOT and none of it needed doing. However it seems as though some have good experiences.
