Citroen AX - Power Loss - axgirl

I own a 15 year old Citroen AX, when bought it had been stood for quite a long while.

In the last couple of months I have been getting intermittent power loss and engine cutout, no coughing and spluttering, the engine just dies. Sometimes it will start again no problem and then other times it won't. Go back to it a couple of days later and it starts!!

It has done it at all speeds, one day it was when I was overtaking on the motorway and another day it was tootling around town at 30mph.

Can anyone help please?

A bit more info. would be useful please.

What engine, how many miles, has it had a full service since being brought back into use?

In order of pain:

Blocked fuel filter.

Failing crankshaft sensor

faulty immobiliser.(if it has one).

Citroen AX - Power Loss - Quicksilver

I have a 23 year old AX which is now on SORN.

I would look at the fuel filter, (likely suspect) or the Distributor Cap, (if it still has one one on this age of car.

In my case the distributor cap was faulty from new and it had the same symptoms as you have. It took me ages to locate it as the car would be OK for some days then bad.

Bon chance!
