I have recently had the glow plugs replaced on my E220, now whenever the engine runs at any revs above a fast idle the engine puts out lots of white smoke, any ideas ? Read more

Diesel-over-elec

What age is the car, if it is a common rail diesel system the glow plugs will do little more than improve fuel efficiency when cold. If CDI system most likely a faulty injector, however is it is even more recent it can also be to do with the Diesel Particluate Filter (DPF). If you can supply the first three digits of the engine code actually six would be better, then i may be able to give you model specific help.

The hot news from MG is that you can now buy a brand new MGF 'on the road' for just £15,500. It's not a stripped-out version either. For your £15,500 you get power steering, alloy wheels, a proper alarm-immobiliser, electric windows, a peppy and economical 112bhp 1.6 twin-cam engine and the big advantage of low Group 11 insurance.

Is their any possibility that the Chinese have got the car sorted ? Has the head gasket been modified ?

Is it worth buying at this price . Read more

I guess some people will argue that sales don't count but from a little research I have found the following info.

The 900,000th MX5 rolled off the production line in February 2011. Not been possible to find a total production figure for the MGF but in the best year it looks like 14,000 (some years way less) thus for the 10years it was manufactured the max would have been 140,000, probably nearer 100,000 looking at some years figures. That would be a ratio of 9 to 1....

Trilogy

This makes interesting reading. Only one car is in the top 10 in both countries.

I was surprised to see the Golf at No. 3 in UK and Mercedes C-Class in at No.10 one month (not shown here). This would have been unthinkable a few years ago - 4 Germans in the top 10! Some months the MINI is there... Read more

Trilogy

Taken from goauto.com (The Australian Fiesta is made where the Focus will be).

Ford has admitted that supplies of its all-new Focus hatch and sedan range from Germany will remain tight until production for Australia switches to Thailand later next year, but says it chose to launch the European-built Focus this week rather than wait until the third quarter of 2012 for Thai-made models.

As a result, monthly sales of the MkIII Focus will be limited to hundreds rather than the thousands Ford needs to satisfy demand and challenge the top-selling Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and Holden’s Adelaide-built Cruze in Australia’s dominant small car market.

Ironically, Ford Australia would have had limitless supplies of the new Focus had the Ford Motor Company not backflipped on its 2007 decision to build 40,000 examples of the new model annually in Broadmeadows for Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and “significant additional export markets” from this year.

Trilogy

Some of you will remember the title from a little while back. Then it was horse riders. :)

I must start this off by saying that I believe lorries drivers are generally some of the best drivers on the road. Sadly, yesterday morning at about 7.00am, on the A14 when everyone had headlights on that was not the case. I had one indicate to come out from the left lane virtually in front of me. He indicated, paused a second, then went. Luckily, I didn't have to brake, but it was close.... Read more

Ben 10

Sometimes the traffic is moving slow across all lanes like on the M25. And even though I haven't been mimsing, I've had the headlights and grill of an artic breathing on my back window. Nowhere to go either. Quite frightening and intimidating. As Jamie says if there is an emergency stop required, there isn't much room for the LGV to pull up in time in that circumstance. Too many bad LGV drivers on our roads. Get tough I say.

Trilogy

I think all MPVs should have sliding rear doors. Why? I think access could be easier, but more importantly MPV doors tend to be opened by children, who are unaware that just flinging it open will result in a ding in the next car's flank. Read more

There is just one more possibility, but I don't think it will ever catch on! Not in countries where it often rains.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAtkoje4-eM

Seen it before, it's made by a very funny guy called Remi Gaillard, search on utube for him, there are loads of his vids on there which mostly seem to involve him baiting the French police. My personal favorite is the Mario Kart video-excellent!

I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand cheap runabout within the next couple of months, max price of £2000. I'll mostly be using it at the weekends to get out of the city, or for a quick run down to the supermarket.

I've previously owned a Ford Puma, a Fiat Punto and a Ford Sierra, and I'm really not fussed by the looks of the car, as long as it's reliable and not a shed and will last me for a few years without costing an arm and a leg.... Read more

If its big enough for you, the most reliable car in my opinion at that budget would be a Toyota Yaris. 1.0 or 1.3

I'm biased but agree. My son has done 20k in 2 years in a 2001 1.0.. It's now done 110k miles....

Don't know the car at all I'm afraid but if it starts OK wih one key and not the other I would suspect a faulty or mis programmed transponder in the in the other key - assuming it has one.
