Hi, i have the 1.9PD engine and when i did the cam belt i just had to remove the 4 Allen bolts and pulley came straight off leaving the centre bolt to hold the cam belt sprocket. Previous VW petrol engines i have done in the past are the same arrangement. Hope this helps.

Moved to Technical - although you could help by being more specific. For example, is that one of the Fords where the bonnet is opened by turning the key in the badge on the grille, or is it a cable with an internal release?

Hi all. Bought a 1999 Reg Megane Sport Coupe 1.6 the other week and just trying to get rid of the problems it has.

This one is about a lack of power from the engine. Basically, when the engine is warm and I accelerate hard, the car sort of loses power (feels as if i've dropped my foot off the accelerator and the brake is being applied slightly). I've noticed that it only really happens at high-ish revs, for example if I accelerate hard it will lose power at around 3k revs in pretty much every gear.

I first noticed it when on the motorway, I would try to accelerate in fifth and it would just lose power.

It varies with how long it lasts for, sometimes it's just a blip and sometimes i have to take my foot off the accelerator for a good 4 seconds which becomes quite dangerous..

So far I have replaced the ignition coils, cleaned up the TDC sensor and cleaned out the throttle body. I then gave up and took it to the garage where they cleaned the flywheel sensor and replaced the coolant temp sensor, but they couldn't find what the problem was. Took it to a second garage and he checked the fuel lines, did engine diagnostics etc but nothing was coming up.

Completely clueless as to what this is and I don't want to take it to Renault to have my money ripped away from me.... Read more

Garage did that but couldn't find any problem with the exhaust system. Took the car to renault and they reckon its the fuel pump as there's a lack of pressure in the fuel lines by the time the petrol gets to the injectors.

Hi,

I have a 04 1.3 cdti Corsa, this pass couple of months it has started using a lot more of fuel. I was getting around 520 per tank. I am now lucky if i get 400 per tank, I drive the same route everyday and the same mileage, the car has been service 5K ago. I can’t see any fuel leaks and it starts fine, any ideas? It done nearly 62k ? thanks in advance ;)... Read more

Hello peeps,

I am in a bit of a dilema as to what the best option is. I currently own a 52 A4 Audi Avant 1.9 TDI with 164K on the clock and in the next 10K I am going to need a replacment time belt and water pump @ £450 I do @ 14K per year to and from work etc and this is mainly motorway miles.

Now I am thinking that if I were to keep the car for another 4 yrs it will have covered over 200k and the residual value will be very very little. However if I trade it in now I would probably get around £1500

On another note if I do keep the car and loose what ever residual value I have left I will still be faced with getting a loan for a newer car and having to borrow extra. So I was wondering what you would do in this situation? Hold on or trade in? As a side note I am curently only getting 43mpg and my fuel bill is rising by the month (as are most) I pay £180pm in fuel alone so my next car would have to be more economical

As for what car I am lookikng at Seat Exeo, Skoda Superb, Or even an Audi A3 sportsback petrol or diesel not really that bothered and it must be no more than 4 yrs old. Does anyone have any expriences with these cars good/bad and how is the mpg (I think the Audi will not be suitable in that respect) I would add that I am looking for a relatively high spec or quality car just like my Audi (toys and all)

Thanks for looking in Read more

tougher than the rest

Hi can anyone help me with this. 2 policeman pulled me over last night for being on my mobile phone. I had the mobile in my hand resting on the steering wheel (it does have a speaker phone) but I was 100% not on the phone, my phone records would easily prove this. I was so adamant that I was not on the phone that the police decided to issue me with offence code 291 driver not in a position to have proper control. I cannot find this code on the DVLA website. Anyway, they argued that I should always have 2 hands on the wheel at all times. They said that I should have a fitted phone. Having thought about this, even if you have a fitted phone, you have to take a hand off the wheel to dial your call? Any ideas on this one, it seems to be a very weak prosecution, mainly based on the police hitting their quotas..the police are very keen for me to take the fixed penalty! Read more

Dab button with thumb/finger, say; "Call <so and so> on mobile/work/home", wait for readback, say; "Yes". That's how it works for me....

Try jacking the wheel up and spinning the offending wheel may isolate the problem?

I'm looking at a new/nearly new car, and like the idea of built-in sat nav.

The built-in unit on the wife's Honda has often proved useful and convenient. In my current car I use an Android smartphone with Navigon software on it. It works ok, but there's the hassle of the temporary mount on the windscreen, the trailing lead to the 12v socket.....I'd prefer the convenience of built-in nav.... Read more

Further to comments made previously about sat-navs. My car is a 55 plate Skoda Superb with a built in unit. The original disc was over £100 but is now out of date. It works beautifully for most of the time but does occasionally get caught out by new roads, one way sytems etc. I would like an update but really begrudge paying a hefty sum for a new disc. I have heard that there are websites where updates for most manufacturers units are available at a fraction of the cost of 'original equipment'(if there is any such thing). Has anyone any experience of these 'unipart' updates in terms of cost, compatability and performance? Your comments please. Thanks Concrete

Cheers for the comments guys. Jamie745 is right, essentially my question was can I insure the car under my private policy even though the car wouldn't be in my name, and would I be insured to drive it home/give test drives?
