I've had an ongoing problem with the dephaser pulley on my car - I believe it's a fairly common fault with these Renaults.
I've not done anything about it because it hasn't been too much of a problem - it just takes 2 or 3 attempts to start from cold, but other than that the car runs ok. Also, to be honest, I can't really afford the £600 repair bill that I was quoted from Renault..!!... Read more

We bought a car privately in November and have had constant problems. Does the sale of good act protect us even if I can't prove the faults were present when purchased? I think the faults are electrical. Read more

I haven't got the patience to mess about with the usual private sale rubbish-I usually buy 6 month old ex-demonstrators from a bonafide dealer....
We bought a vw golf, 55 plate 33000 miles, fsh, one owner, immaculate etc etc and after 2 weeks of perfect ownership woke up to find the rear lights on and the battery flat. The AA sorted that and we were ok for several more days, then the same problem happened twice in 3 nights. I noticed the nights were cold, this was December. We took it to our local garage that had the car on check for battery drain for 3 nights in their workshop and no problems were found. The tool each fuse out no drain. We got the car back and it drained that night, the alarm going off with the rear lights on again. Local garage recommended VW garage who again found no fault. Came back to us, ok for a night then drained again. Back to local garage that said can bus unit or alternator or starter motor could be the problem and they recommend changing one by one but can't guarantee a solution. We have spent £400 on getting nowhere. Has anyone got any ideas? Read more
Yep, Faulty brake light switch. Regards Peter
Hiya, Just recently bought this and was driving it down the motorway.
However, realised that it was doing 4000 RPM at 70MPH. It's a 1.6SE Automatic. Could anyone advise whether this is normal? Thanks a lot. Awaiting your reply in anticipation. Read more
No. It's either not going into top gear or-if it's a true automatic (ie not DSG) the torque converterhas not locked and is slipping excessively.
I garaged my focus for a few weeks and when I went to start it I wouldn't. when I turned the key the small red light above the radio flashed. I assumed this was the immobilizer. After another couple on months I went to start it and now the battery is completedly fllat. and not even a glimmer from that red light. please help me.
thank you, kind sirs. Read more
If its been standing all that time without being charged there is a good chance that you will need a new battery.
I bet you're all, in a manner of speaking, looking forward to the next couple of weeks.
It will be good to hear how you all get on, with your tyres, in the snow! Read more
Shame the snow has all gone really ! it was great running around with winter tyres. Do exactly what they say on the tin ! the only down side was that there was no fun as it went everywhere I wanted to go with ease.
L/R in snow mode with snow tyres ! you couldn't do better
Hi My d5 is taking considerably longer to start and there are no symtoms to indicate it's an injector problem. The car takes roughly the same number of cranks to start when stood overnight regardless of temperature however this reduces in the day depending on the length of time the car has stood? It seems to be a pump problem (pressure) anybody aware of problems of this type? Read more
Again seen an advert on e-bay for a red chevrolet cruze, previously on an e-bay auction, but was originally sold from a dealers in liverpool for £5999 aound christmas time, then appeared on auto trader fot £6350, on e-bay as an auction (as an unwanted present!)and now again on ebay with an lpg conversion and now £7600 ish... and wondering what on earth is going on, especially as it appears to be a private sale and there would be very little comeback for any buyer. Well for 10 years we had PPG13 which ensured there were never enough parking spaces for new built accomodation. The fewer spaces you committed to - the easier it was to get council approval to build it. A prime example is an apartment block in Reading which made it into the Metro i think, over 45 apartments and only 26 parking spaces. Guess which 26 flats sold first? Yep, you guessed it.
Theres a development just down the road from me, built in 2006. 20 houses and 17 parking spaces so theres always 3 or 4 cars parked on the road, 3 inches from the corner, on yellow lines all the time. This causes issues with traffic flow, issues which could be avoided by providing enough spaces.
