Breakdown cover - i'm not mechanically minded so if something goes wrong, its a phone call made to someone to help me out which brings me to breakdown cover.

I've done lots of research but am unsure of which one to go with.

My car is a volvo s70 1998 2.5 and basically I want cover that will get me back home if i break down and understand this is sold as recovery however what concerns me is having random 3rd party garages tinkering with my car.

Best reviews seem to be for AutoAid but they are pay and you claim (i may not have funds with me at the time).

Also, what is classed as "reasonable time" as these companies say, if your car can't be fixed in "reasonable time" by us or a local garage then you will be towed to your choice of destination?

For example, say my car break downs, the patrol man can't fix it but he says "dodgy garage" can fix it and you have to pay them labour and parts, if you don't we can't tow you.

Any advice on who to go with?

My insurance is with elephant and they offered me full cover for £41 and they use a company called "call assist" are they legit or cowboys?

Hello all..I bought a Sanat Fe new in Dec 2010, and from the off it pulled to the left. It had a four wheel alignment carried out, which detected a very minor problem (not enough to account for the pull), so I've lived with it,

At first service, I mentioned it to the dealer, and they swapped front and rear tyres round. Now the constant left pull has gone, and if driving at constant speed, the cars tracks straight and true.... Read more

This effect of going from under power to overrun producing a sideways effect does sound like something allowing shift in the tracking, unlikely though that is.

You could try a simple check which shows any wear problems quickly, simply park the car and taking each wheel in turn try to move the car by firmly rolling each stationary wheel forwards and back, any play or wear in the suspension will show itself by the wheel that is at the problem end moving considerably more than the others inside the wheelarch, then investigate further if you find extra movement....

I had to start another of these threads as I saw a Lancia Delta this morning (doing a fair old lick on the motorway I might add). I've never seen one before. Funny looking; kind of somewhere between crossover and softroader size.

I also saw a car with a badge I've never seen before - I had the distinct feeling it was American by the styling of the car. A sort of pale oblong with a black rectangle outline, with a bar across the middle. Anyone got any ideas? I can't find it on google images! Read more

It wasn't a De Tomaso. I thought it was a Lincoln Town Car but it's not quite right. It had a mid 90s 'N' plate.

Yes, I mean a brand spanking new Lancia Delta - this thing: www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=lancia+delta&um=1&am...7

My Panda 100hp just failed first MOT with worn ball joints at 25,000 miles. I believe cause most likely overwide tyres on standard suspension components. Therefore considering fitting normal wheels with deeper profile tyres. Anyone know what size wheels & tyres I need to maintain same overall size as at present? Better ride also hopeful outcome. I am currently selling my Mazda RX8, and wondering where people have had the best feedback from when selling their cars?

I have gone for the obvious Autotrader/Exchange&Mart, but I am being told Piston Heads is a decent place to put my type of car too, anyone had any recent experience? Read more

Hi all,
I know what your all thinking! Another Mazda 6 issue!

Basically, my 6 has been doing the usual stalling/trouble starting/rough idle recently. Yesterday, it failed to start completely and still won't now.

I'm pretty sure its the dreaded SCV thats causing the issue. All the other times, the car has ran great and I love it.

I was wondering if there was any way to test for sure if it is the SCV causing the issue?

Also, I have found the part for £129 (brand new Denso SCV) and was wondering if anybody could guide me through changing it myself as I've seen some people say its only a 20 minute job? I've looked at it and it does like quite tricky/Fiddley.
Would it be something the RAC/AA could fit, if I asked them nicely and gave them the part?

Cheers Read more

Forum Fresh Air

In the good old days (1980s) I used to drive Vauxhalls and the centre face vent was connected to the outside air. I could have toasty warm feet, demisted windscreen and cold air to breathe and keep me awake.

Climate control, air con etc are all wonderful and I would not be without them but why is there no new car that can give fresh, external air, when the heaters etc are on? Or is there? Read more

ChannelZ

It's annoying, isn't it? My old 106 could either have cold, fresh air or centre-of-the-sun-hot air depending on the settings of the heater controls. I think if you put it on feet and screen, they went warm and the centre vent went cold. Of you put it on vent with the heat on, then heat came from the centre vent - and that could melt your face off within a mile on a frosty morning.

I think some BMWs have a switch to change between cold or warmed air on the centre vents.
