Volkswagen is poised to sign off an 80mph, battery-powered version of its new city car. Called e-Up, it has a range of over 90 miles in temperate conditions and should appear in UK showrooms within a year.

Available accessories include a flat cap and a whippet apparently.

I have a Chevrolet Lacetti where the base of the gear-stick vibrates when its in gear and the engine is revving, and the vibration causes a metallic "tizzing" sound.
If you rest your hand on the gear stick and move it just one or two millimeters, the noise can stop and come back.

I uploaded a video of the problem here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS3sPWRQt2k

It looks wet because I have just sprayed it with tonnes of white grease, which didn't make a difference.

Any idea how to sort this out? It's really annoying and is sometimes loud enough to drown out the radio and engine! Read more

My S-Type has 5 billion watt Xenon's fitted to it, the 406 was upgraded to similar bulbs years ago so its been a while since i've been in a car at night with normal lights. The other night i was a passenger in my girlfriends S40 with normal lights and i couldnt believe how rubbish normal headlights are on your typical unlit dual carraigeway.

I suppose its possible i'm just too comfortable with my ridiculously bright lights but i still found it surprising.... Read more

Only if you have some rediculous French rubbish

You want o see how rediculous(sic) Ford owners look swivelling the badge round and waggling the key around in an effort to get the bonnet open!...

Hello there,

Hopefully this will clear a lot of uncertainty up on the type of fuel to be used in this vehicle.... Read more

Turbo petrol engines do benefit from extra octane-when on boost. Most of the time you will not be on boost-so it's a toss up as to whether you'll miss the extra few horsepower. But, contrary to popular beilef, you don't get an extra 5% economy at part throttle on higher octane fuel.

The biggest factor in the onset of detonation is intake air temperature. So while the ambient temperatures are low, save your pennies and use supermarket swill. My brother's Volvo 2.5 Turbo runs just fine on 95 Octane-and he hasn't had to scrape deposits off the valves once!

I am thinking about buying a Ford Tourneo Connect 5 or 8 seater 07/08 plate.

Ford dealers said they are hard to come by and when I look online it is listed as commercial not car so can be quite confusing. Does anyone have any knowledge/info on one of these good or bad? Also what alternative could you recommend - VW Caddy, Peugeot Partner, Fiat Doblo etc. Any input would be welcomed.... Read more

What do you need it to do, Fryup - carry people (how many?) or things or both?

If you need an 8-seater, the Hyundai i800 is often forgotten, and one of the few options open to those who couldn't do without a Toyota Previa.

From today's Yorkshire post ,car insurance really is getting out of hand.

A MOTHER was stunned to be quoted £100,000 to insure her car for a year – or “only £10,185 a month” if she chose to pay by monthly payments.

Sian Jones, 28, received a letter from Vauxhall Insurance to let her know her annual payment would be £100,034 – a huge leap from the £700 it had cost her the previous year.

I wonder how many dd convictions you would need to merit a quote like this, apparently it's a mistake by vauxhall insurance ,but how long it will it be before it becomes a reality ,after all petrol at £1 a gallon seemed ridiculous not that long ago.

On the same subject ,has their ever been a study to compare the rise in salaries with the rise in fuel costs .

If you were take the average salary in 1970 to be say £1000 ,and fuel cost £1 a gallon , that would be .01% of an annual salary .

How would that compare to today's average salary of £36000 ,with fuel at £6.00 a gallon ,that would be .0165 %

I'm guesstimating the figures ,but on the face of it ,it appears that we pay much more for fuel now than we did 40 years ago .or do we.

Neighbour decided to clean his car today (of all days!!) and because of the lie of the land the water runs down and across his drive and across the footpath outside my house. The water has frozen into a sheet of ice across the whole footpath outside my house and my drive crossing and cannot be avoided by pedestrians without going into the road.

I know this is clearly of his making but is there any liability on me because its outside my house? Read more
