Jaguar has said that their Heritage Museum based at Browns Lane will close in September, and that their long term plans would be to have a new museum nearer to Whitley.
In the intervening time, surely it would make sense to link in with the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon so that some of the Jaguar Heritage collection could be displayed until a new Jaguar Heritage museum is ready. Read more
My Mk2 97 Mondeo Ghia X 24V just failed its MOT on emissions (fast idle, Lambda and CO). I've also noticed that it's idling badly, can sometimes stall when warm. Ford are saying its the Cats, apparently there are three on the vehicle, 2 precats plus one main cat. I have found aftermarket main cats fairly cheaply on the web, but not the precats. Ford are still checking whether it's all 3 cats that are broken or just one/two of them. Ford want lots of money to replace all three cats (if in fact they all need replacing).
Questions:
1) Do all three cats need to be working to pass emissions testing?
2) If I just replace the back cat, will that work on its own with the others broken?
3) What might have caused the cat or cats to fail (fouled plugs, anything related to poor idle)?
4) Could the Lambda sensors be anything to do with it?
5) Any ideas on where I might source the front cats other than (expensively) from Ford?

I'm aware that the NCD is carried by the car and not the driver, in that it's not possible to use your earned NCD on two cars. However suppose I take out a second policy and build up an extra lot of NCD on my second car, if I then have a claim in one of my cars, does this effect both policies come renewal time?
It would seem a bit unfair, but I'm sure most policies have a question about claims in the past 5 years or something similar, and don't caveat this with regards to if the claim is on a different vehicle. This would seem most unfair if it is indeed correct. Read more
A claim on one policy may affect the premium on both policies at renewal time but will only affect the NCD of the policy where you made the claim.
The question "any accidents, claims or convictions" needs to be answered truthfully - even if the claim is for an unrelated car, including hire car.
I'd be grateful if forum members could offer some advice on GAP insurance.
I'm about to take possession of a 7 month old Peugeot and as it's a lot of money to me wonder if GAP insurance is worth taking out.... Read more
Auristocrat,
That's a very comprehensive reply and told me things I didn't know thank's for your time and trouble....
Hello all. Engine management light solid, glow plug light flashes as soon as engine under load after which engine cuts out (and the load needed to do this has been decreasing over time). Suspect turbo or injector problem but I'm no expert and I would like to take it in to someone who can get it right first time.
Can anyone please recommend someone in or near Bristol or Bath? The problem took a dramatic turn for the worse last night and I'm being recovered from Middlesbrough later today.

Get him to take out the EGR valve (very easy job) and clean it the other common fault is the turbo actuator or get him to put Aa couple bottles of commercial Fortes cleaner in the tank it sometimes resolves the issues for a few thousand miles.
Has anyone heard of Lea Francis? Wondering how popular it was back in its production days and how well-known it is these days in the UK. Read more
There were two attempts to revive the name - 1980-92 with 3 litre Sports and the Ace of Spades, and 1998 with the 30/230 concept. The 30/230 was a roadster similar to the BMW Z3. Look at www.lfoc.co.uk
2004 A4 B6 Avant 130k... the usual Bosch ABS system and predictably it has failed. Message centre flashing "BRAKES!" and ABS lamp plus flashing hand brake lamp, as would be expected from this unit when it goes down. However, when scanned with dealer software, and then again with VAG.com, there are NO fault codes whatever on the car!
On running a full on diagnostic with VAG.com, brake line pressures all register OK, ABS can be cycled (i.e everything works) when prompted by the diagnostic. Testing the brakes on a slippy carpark, no ABS function is present. ... Read more
Leak (a small one) in poer steering dripping from pipe. Local garage think the actual leak is from 'rods inside the unit' and to fix properly would be 'mega bucks'. Would steam clean and power steering fluid with sealant help? My main concern - repair costs apart - is that leak constitutes an MOT failure. Anyone got any ideas? My MOT expires BEFORE next tax due! At last I can trade my XC90 in for another fun car. I've been offered a very fair deal on a p/x for an Abarth 500 but I am undecided.

I sat in one of these at a local show at Malvern. I have to say this is a good looking vehicle, decent value, designed by Italians. I think we're going to see a few of these about driven by people who might have bought a Freelander, but want to save some £££.... Read more
Warranty period might be ok but how many agents do they have throughout europe to do any work.

I think the same. A broken lambda sensor should continue to read rich/lean no matter how much the fuel trim is altered-so the ECM puts limits on how much the fuel trim can be adapted in response to lambda sensor readings.
I'm glad it is sorted, but there must've have been another sensor (probably MAF/CTS that was dirty or shorting/open circuit. Perhaps re-seating the sensors sorted the problem. No need to worry!
