Ford Mondeo 2005 TDCI 130 - Urgent-Need good diesel mechanic Bristol/Bath area - rmj
Hello all. Engine management light solid, glow plug light flashes as soon as engine under load after which engine cuts out (and the load needed to do this has been decreasing over time). Suspect turbo or injector problem but I'm no expert and I would like to take it in to someone who can get it right first time.

Can anyone please recommend someone in or near Bristol or Bath? The problem took a dramatic turn for the worse last night and I'm being recovered from Middlesbrough later today.

First stop before you start considering expensive items like turbos and injectors is an EGR valve check - a code read will reveal any problems, but it is easy enough to do a DIY inspection and clean/replacement, check the pipe serving it for splits too - there's plenty of info on the internet.

There's also a known problem with the injector working loom chafing on the top pulley, so check this too. This also manifests itself with a general injector fault code.

Thanks for the fast reply. Doing this normally isn't beyond me with a bit of guidance (and I'm all for saving a few quid) but I'm in the middle of some work where I'll be away every week for months all over the UK and I won't have time this weekend. I could take it to my local mechanic (I trust him) but I don't think he has the equipment to read the ECU or the expertise to deal with TDCI problems...

Get him to take out the EGR valve (very easy job) and clean it the other common fault is the turbo actuator or get him to put Aa couple bottles of commercial Fortes cleaner in the tank it sometimes resolves the issues for a few thousand miles.
