Right, have decided to replace the horrid drivers seat out of my Mercedes Vario (camper in conversion) with some nice and tidy Mazda RX-8 Seats (as I rather like these)
In the works - the fix to get this to work was to use 13mm plywood between the main seat (the mazda seat) and the mercedes seat mounting points where the old seat used to sit. All corectly secured with 6 bolts (m6/m8's) on each side to get this secured. This is due to the fact that the runners of the new seat and base holes don't match and using ply with off set holes this works very well.
Can I ask - is using wood as a sandwich "filling" with off set holes between the mazda seat and main base of the mercedes a MOT fail? (even though its very very secure?) or am I going to have to consider getting a metal plate made to order to match the wooden one we have done?
As I can honesly say this method is no differernt to the way the seats where done in the bus part of the camper (in its past life) where the current floor ply was sandwiched between the chassis members and seat rackings in the rear.... Read more
I've recently changed from Tesco fuel to Shell fuel.
I now have a much quieter engine and better mpg.Any reason for this?Is Shell fuel that much better and Why? Read more
each one makes their own unique (validated) claims over standard quality diesel fuel
Love to see the validation. But brunette actress in spotless labcoat clutching a conical flask doesn't cut the mustard for me.
my car has just done 100,000 mls and engine management light came on.the car itself runs fine, i just wondered if it was because it wanted a service. any ideas Read more
sounds pretty much like mine, how do you go about getting codes.
Hi, For some reason I cannot open the back doors or the side doors. I don't have a fob and only have the key. There is no lock on the outside. Does anyone know how to open the back or the side door? Read more
If it's got central locking try either the opening motion with the key twice, or hold the key in the open position for a few seconds.

Check the supply cable from the solenoid to the starter motor. The short heavy duty cable where sometimes the sheathing can go brittle an break allowing the current to track from the cable.
I'm trying to fix the soft top on someones Jimny, the front section of the roof over the driver has a mounting rail , which was steel, now virtually rusted away.
The Suzuki dealer say that this rail for the Mk1 is over £300, but the guy reckons that the rail for the later model 'looks the same ' and only costs £138, problem is if it wont fit then I'm stuck with a useless part as there are no returns on specially ordered parts.... Read more
Useful, thanks.
Hi. Volvo push the 16" Libra wheel as more "efficient". Has anyone experienced any problems with these wheels? I wondered if their shape meant that they were more likely to suffer kerbing (or other) damage than other wheels or if the large plain areas kept well? Read more
On Saturday 27th Jan at about 6.30p.m.I had picked up my car from where I had left it all day (in a lay by just off the A59 Harrogate road). I travelled north approx 2 miles north on the A1 when a RAC breakdown van flashed me repeatedly. I pulled over to be told that I had no back lights at all. The chap then fiddled with the bulbs, corrected the fault and followed me for 5 miles to make sure the fault did not reoccur. Shortly after I continued driving I passed a police car whom I am sure would not have been quite so helpful. It was pitch black. The chap was about 30 years old and had red hair. I wish I had taken his name as he quite possibly averted a bad accident. I am with the AA but when it comes to renewal I will swop to the RAC, I am very grateful. I have tried to track this guy down to thank him but the call centre could not locate him. Read more
To give a good impression of the RAC, which he clearly did.
I wonder how many people have had a similar experience to mine with Tesco Cars? Three weeks ago my 2000 Mercedes V-Class rust-bucket came to the end of its life. So, I searched Tesco Cars website and found a decent sounding cheap Astra for sale on the site. I paid my £99 reservation fee and looked forward to picking up my car after it had been checked and prepared for sale. Sharon at Tesco Cars rang me every week (despite my asking her not to do so, but to email instead) and kept me abreast of progress. This morning she phoned to tell me that the car was no longer for sale (or not until April) and I would like a better more expensive one!
I worry that there is no feedback process in place for such websites. OK, so nothing terrible has happened, I wasn't left stuck with a Friday-afternoon car. But, I have wasted time waiting for a car which Tesco's had no firm contract to receive. I think they just guessed that the car would be available on the advertised date. I wonder how many of the cars on their website are 'vapour-ware' designed to attract the punter but don't actually exist. I am not saying that the car I reserved didn't actually exist, but certainly it wasn't available for another 3 months (and I have to believe Sharon that that is true).... Read more
ChristofS I had similar experience but with a twist. I "secured" a car in December 2011. It was due available on Jan 6 th but Sharon advised it would be the 20 th. ah well I thought, might as well wait a bit more. Like you I ended up being told the car was not for sale. Reason was it might not have been up to scratch or failed the criteria set by Tesco cars. but I already had been advised the car registration. It appeared a week later on an independent car dealers website via autotrader for 3 grand more than I,d already secured it for. Looking at the pictures it looked amazing and had all the extras you could want and the type of alloys I,d hoped would be attached. So how did it get there? Does it mean car site or tesco have no bargaining power with any lease companies or any contracted supply chain vendors? Or did the vendor have the price tesco would offer in the bag so to speak and sell to a higher bidder should the opportunity occur. All speculation on my part but I,m getting really cynical buying anything these days. I was told what I was looking for was a rare model and might try an alternative. My only thought was try an alternative more reliable car dealer. Last thing is who are the tesco business managers in this set up? i think they need a shake up as this enterprise will fail as poor news spreads. show us the professional approach tesco - you will have to bite the bullet and buy some stock. But that won't work will it! Poor show tesco
Can someone tell me if this is the Hazzard Light Switch or could it be an electrics fault?
