On Saturday 27th Jan at about 6.30p.m.I had picked up my car from where I had left it all day (in a lay by just off the A59 Harrogate road). I travelled north approx 2 miles north on the A1 when a RAC breakdown van flashed me repeatedly. I pulled over to be told that I had no back lights at all. The chap then fiddled with the bulbs, corrected the fault and followed me for 5 miles to make sure the fault did not reoccur. Shortly after I continued driving I passed a police car whom I am sure would not have been quite so helpful. It was pitch black. The chap was about 30 years old and had red hair. I wish I had taken his name as he quite possibly averted a bad accident. I am with the AA but when it comes to renewal I will swop to the RAC, I am very grateful. I have tried to track this guy down to thank him but the call centre could not locate him.
